Early in the morning a large field across Hwy 61 from Silver Bay began to fill up with ATVs. Vendors were set up selling snacks and drinks and the trailers from
the major ATV manufacturers were there displaying their latest models.
By 9 o'clock the place was buzzing with activity. By 10 the staging field was growing full and it looked like a sea of ATVs and at 11:15 the parade started.
We were staged a few rows from the end and from the time the first bike pulled out in the parade, nearly an hour passed before we started our wheelers.
This was not from delays as they were steadily pulling onto the parade route. There were just that many ATV's there.
So what was going on there? We were attempting to break a world record. The world's longest ATV parade.
ATVAM, The ATV Association Of Minnesota, organized this event in memory of C.J. Ramstad, former editor of MN Offroad Magazine.
Unfortunately we missed the record by about 55 ATVs. Having had 1083 bikes in the parade
we fell just short of the record.
