We have a new Polaris '08 Touring 500 EFI 2-up machine.  We also still have our '04 Sportsman 500 HO.  The new ADS system is wonderful.  Take the thumb off the throttle on a steep downhill run and it brings it to a stand still.  A lot different from the old skid for life with the old EBS system.

We had a ride on Pa's Bloody Skillet trails this past weekend and it performed flawlessly.  Why did we choose it over the Outty??  My wife tried every 2-up machine on the market a number of times and the Polaris has the most comfortable second seat of all of them.

I also love the paint over plastic a lot better than all of the compititions plain plastic bodies out there.  Blue rules!!

SO, LIKE i ASKED ANY OTHER TOURING OWNERS OUT THERE??  LETS HERE IT!  :ban:

Is this a new model for 08? because when I was shopping in 07, the x-2 was a terrible 2-up machine, as far as the rear passenger was concerned. I hope it is cause I think the market for 2-ups could use more competition than just AC and Can-am.

OK, I will try to clear up the confusion caused by Polaris lack of imagination in model names.

In 2008 there are two Polaris 2-up models to choose from.  The 1st is the same (basically) Sportsman X-2 machine that has been around for a couple of years. It is the one with the standard dump box on the back that can convert to a questionable 2-up machine.  This one has a passenger seat that is as hard as a brick and not much of a backrest for the passenger.   Rate this 2-up machine just a tad higher thatn the Artic Cat.

The other 2-up machine called the "Touring" model, is designed from the ground up to be a 2 rider trail machine.  (See my avadar).  It has a substantial posh passenger seat and back rest.  There are comfortable hand -holds for the passenger, as well as raised foot rests that have a degree of adjustment available.

This is the machine that I was refering to that has the (in my wife's oppinion) most comfortable passenger ride in the whole 2-up market.

It comes in a couple of plain plastic colors, as well as a new painted surface (touted to be stronger and longer lasting good looks than plain plastic) colors of Blue, black and a limited edition of Pearl White.

Hope this explains things better!:)

Looks good, like I've said before, for just trail riding and site-seeing a 500 is plenty enough power for a 2-up, I could have easily gone that route.

BTW:wel: to AWF :)

Hopefully some others with the Touring model will come along soon.

How does the longer wheelbase of the 2-up model handle the tight trails compared to a std. Sportsman?.....GOTT

Well I have only had the machine out on a few runs so far.  Last weeks ride on Pa's Bloody Skillet trail had a few sharp hair-pin turns and it handled them fine.

If you look at it as how does it handle on tight turns if you are riding 2-up on both machines, than it definately handles turns better than the standard sportsman.  When we ride 2-up on the old machine, due to less weight on the front tires, I often have to take 2 cuts at tight turns.  No such problem with the Touring Two-up model.  Hope this helps!

Too bad it comes with such crappy tires and soft rims. Both tires on the right side are falling right off the rims, and they're bent too.

In your avatar pic, the tires and wheels look bad, must be a shadow or something.

Also, if not familiar with the X2-Touring line up, they offer something no other brand or Polaris line offers. Turf mode. This is an unlocking rear diff that will allow for tighter turning. I especially like for road riding or parking lot turn arounds. Its great on the trail for those tight spots.

Brad- just alittle heads up, the soleniod that activates and deacivates the turf mode is prone to sticking after a period of non-use. I experience this mostly after riding alot of mud/water and the quad may sit for a few weeks. Do not take this to the dealer, this is a $90 part with a 2-3hr labor bill if its not under warranty. Simply take a small hammer and LIGHTLY tap the casing of the solenoid with the turf mode switched on and in a forward/rev gear, until you here it click again. You may experience this, and you may not. It seems only those of us who have managed to find every mud hole along the trail have this issue. Not a big fuss Just something every X2 owner should be aware of.
Polaris needs to put more zerks on their quads. Used to be 100 zerks then ppl complained about to many now ppl cuss because not enough.

congrats on your new quad, your wife will love that Touring seat. I wish I had waited for the touring, My wife doesn't enjoy the X2 rear seat all that much. I have an 06 500 X2 Black/slv ( not only should I have waited for the touring but for the blue too.)

Put and winch and some front/rear bumpers on that thing and you'll be good. Have fun.

Thanks for the heads up.  As for the pic, its a stock photo that I used, mine was ordered with the heavy-duty 2" tube bumpers fore & aft, and the 2500# winch.  We also opted for the kevlar passenger hand gauntlets and driver gauntlets to protect our hands from briars.  Also put a coplin ridget box on the back to hold all the goodies.  You know if you're heading out into the woods with your sweetie, you should always have a blanket - never know when the "urge to play" is going to hit them!!!:tg:

At least in the DRIVERS case, it is a good thing that you didn't post the picture I took of you guys and your machine with the HELMETS OFF :omg: !!!

Of course if you want to see a really good machine just look at my avatar.  Usually popo riders only get to see it from the back through the dust.

You know We think you guys are AWSOME, I just couldn't resist this opportunity:raz:

I bought a 800 touring back in december. I traded in my outty for it. It suits our riding style a lot better. Like you stated, my old lady thinks its the most comfortable too!!!

We love it so far, have about 16 hours on it. Im fixing to order some 26" terracross XDs from matt at atvoutfitters and then ill get me a winch and some bumpers.

RiddlerLS1,

I sold my 800 outty max.  It actually had too much power. I can't believe I said that! But on tight trails and rock crawling, I had a hard time using the outty.

How is the Polaris 800 on the tight stuff. Is the power smooth or is it jumpy like the outty. Also how is the heat generated by the Polaris.

Thanks

I HAD a 08 800 Touring... I had alot of problems out of mine... I loved the ride of it and the STABLE feeling it gave on hills... Man that thing would just keep climbing...
I hadlots of problems from dealer when fixing a faulty seal in the crankshaft... Leaked oil all into the CVT..
Mainly all the other problems were dealer incompetence... They had to pull motor to replace seal and they didnt line the clutches up... Left throttle body hose clamps so loose that the hoses came off, header bolts were halfway sticking out and actually lost one of the bolts.. took it back again after a short 3 hour ride due to broke belt from alignment not being right.... found out that their alignment tool was BENT!!!! they "Fixed" it then... Well after one ore ride this time only 1 1/2 hours and BAM still another broke belt....
My dad ended up buying it from me and so here I am with the OUTTY..
I still have my 04.5 700 sportsman and love it... I just dont have the time with the way I work to wait on them to fix it right and definantly dont have the patience...

Oh also the seal that was bad at first, it was 9 hours on the machine when it shredded the first belt... so I didnt ever get TOO far into riding it... It was REALLY smooth riding especially with the BigHrns I put on it...

A little update also.. They replaced both clutches on it due to damage from all the belt breakage and dad went out for a ride and 3 1/2 hours later on the way back to the trailer another belt gone!!!
He tries to say it was his fault, but, I'm not believing.. There is SOMETHING WRONG with that bike!!!

Brad, question for you if you don't mind. I'm looking at one of these too, and was just wondering, I saw that the rear seat unlatches and can be removed, is there anything that snaps in it's place? (like the toolbox on the Outlander Max?). I'm looking at selling my 400 Outty max to get this, basically for the EFI and a little more ground clearance. Thanks for your time.

Bob
