What the heck was Polaris thinking with the design of the X2 ? I saw one today and was really disappointed. Looked like a back rest on a beer cooler, the seat (using the term loosely) was flat and hard. No wonder the BRP is out selling them. I'm not trolling here, I just expected more from Polaris then that! It was real obvious that it wasn't just my opinion either. At the show, there were 6 or 7 people gathered around the BRP MAX quads and the X2 looked lonely sitting there by itself. Did I miss something? :hp:

Funny thing is that Polaris stated when Bomb first came out with the Max versions, that 2-up Atv's would never be useful and that was the worse idea they'd ever seen. Same with the Rev chassis sleds, but they followed that idea with the poorly thought out "Confusion" chassis. 2-up Atv's outsell the single seaters at my dealership. Makes sense. How many  regular cab are sold nowadays compared to extended cabs and quad cabs? Likw 10 to 1 probably.

We checked out all brands of the two up before we ordered the bomb. There was no comparison. By the time you added all the extras to the Polaris or Artic cat you could have paid for the bomb xt which is an 800.

THe more I thought about it,, the more I think NBMan is right, I don't think they care about the 2 seater market. With the loyal following Polaris has, I think it's a mistake.

I have to say that my interest in 2up riding STARTED with Polaris because all of my friends ride Polaris.  Just because I'm a hard shopper, I researched ALL of the 2 seaters.  I agree with the first post about the X2.  Besides it's substandard (to me, seating) it really REALLY should have Polaris's largest motor and upgraded stuff because it seems to me that a lot of the people shopping (not all but most) for a 2 seater want the comfort and upgrades and by the way Bomber Max XTs are FLYING out the door, I'd say I'm 110% right.  The X2 was right next to the Bombardier Max units at the dealership I bought our bomber at, I really think Polaris could do better.  They should follow Bombardier's lead on this (that's code for GET COMPETITIVE) and make their largest and best model in a maxed out two seater.  They'd sell a ton of 'em.   That X2 with the 500 is marginal at best.  I've got two friends that make their wives sit on the back of their Polaris single seat units.  No way in heck is that safe, or comfortable!

Heck, just so I wouldn't have to listen to the barrage about not buying a Polaris from my friends, if the X2 was what I previously described, I probably would've bowed to the peer pressure!  As it stood though, the decision was more than made for me with the ultra comfortable 2up seating and blindingly fast engine and great handling that goes with it.

Polaris is more than capable of trouncing Bombardier here.  Again, the high price isn't deterring anyone on the Bombers.  Gitrdone Polaris, you have the following, take care of your folks!

One aside on the topic, the extended wheelbase of the two seaters make the steep scary climbing a bit easier.

Test drove the new Outlander 650 XT MAX........By far the best 2-up on the market!!

Still like Polaris's.....but it is getting harder to like them since "seeing the light":dan:

Ok, I bought a Polaris Sportsman X2. We have put almost 5hrs on it and 50miles.

It is a single 500cc HO EFI, 4x4 w/awd/2x4/and turf mode. It has a 6gal fuel tank/ a dump bed and a passenger seat. It has a different style of IRS than used on single passenger Sportsmans. It came with stock 489 tires, which I replaced with PXTs. The turf mode sends power to the inside wheel when turning, allowing for tighter radius turns. It feels squirrlly at high speeds when in the turf mode and Runs much better in 2x4 when going any faster than 35mph. The powerband is much smoother than my 600 and handles like it has power steering (due to the turf mode), which in OUR opinion handles better the BRuP 800max

I was afraid of the "power loss feel" going from a twin 600 to a single 500cc, but That was laid to rest quickly. When I hit the throttle, it goes with out hesitation. It is no 800 but it has been said, no one needs more than this. And this machine touts two people around extremly well. Especially for what we are going to be doing, trail riding. With two people I could not tell a difference in handling or ride, The Turf mode another key to this machine. The backdrive on the front wheels is not on any 06 models. I have waited long enough for it, but Polaris has finally said that it will not make it on 06 models, since they could not perfect it in time of the release. I suspect 07 models will, and it will be like the EBS on the 450 and 500ho; a dealer installed option for those who bought the prior yr and want it. I must say, but the EBS on this thing is Awesome. Some may say it is too much, but I like it.

The passenger seat is somewhat stiff, but the back seat driver has yet to complain. The X2 Performed well over the few ruts and rocky trails that we went on. I forgot, At times that I had another person on the quad with me, at other times it was hard as my wife, Teresa would remind me with a jab in the ribs or with a shriek of fear. It handled as if i was alone on the machine.

We did not have much loaded up on the machine for this ride, 1 gal of fuel, two 6pack coolers and miscallanoas tools. Oh and another gal of fuel that another rider throw on, there isn't much room left in the bed after the passenger seat is up. I pulled a u'ee on the road w/turf mode w/two people on board and slowly, not breaking loose the rear end to slide around, that would have been/was a three point turn or a jump up on the shoulder with ANY other quad including some of the BRuPs that was with us. Some of these roads were just big enough for a single pickup and trailer to go down.

We are happy with the machine and can not wait to ride it more. I do not understand why this is not more popular the seat was a concern at first but now we have some rough miles under/on it and it is fine. I know they are late to the game as far as Two up riding is concerned, But that turf Mode is the Biggest selling fact for me. And it is not like Polaris is seeing any issues with this turf mode. I have not seen any warranty bullentins.
If you do/or want to 2up ride or single riding and Haul lots of stuff. This is the way to go. The 500EFI has got plenty of gedy up and go..  I do not suspect that they will go with a 700-800efi for a yr or two. At least I hope not, but I still most likely would not have bought on of them any how.

I test drove the X2 before deciding on switching brands and going with the 650 Max XT.   There are alot of really nice features on the X2...and it rode very plush...  In my opinion, Polaris could have done things a little differently....and it would have been more apealing to me.

Pros:
1. Very cool that the seat stores on board for converting from 1 up to 2 up...unlike the Outy

2. Turf mode...without a doubt...very nice feature ..especially reminded of this on the Outy when maneuvering 2 up on tar parking lots.

3. Large fuel tank

4. Lotsa storage

Cons:
1. Although EFI is nice....I would have preffered at least a 600 twin on such a big machine

2. Nearly 900 pounds dry weight!!   (did I mention it only has a single cyl 500?)

3. Dump box feature is not practical to haul any small loose stuff like sand...the seat area stores kind of like a "stow and go Caravan" and the sand will get into the areas where the seat mechanics need to pivot...causing more headache than it's worth

I think  this machine would have been alot more attractive without the dump box and just a slick 1 up / 2up setup:2cent:

Please do not get mad...this is just one man's opinion .....The X2 is very cool and is unique....it is just not quite what I was looking for in a 2 up machine.

I wish the Outy Max would incorparate a couple similar ideas that Polaris did on the X2

1. some version of "turf mode"
2. make the passenger seat store on board when not in use:thumb2:

Very good points.

I think the biggest thing they could/should have done is make the Passenger seat/dump box a Lock-n-Ride accesory. You know what I mean? You either lock on a 2nd seat, or you lock on  a Dump bed. It would be a whole nother rear rack like on the sportsman instead of a half bed like it is now with the 2nd seat. You either buy a bed or a 2nd seat, or both and switch when ever you want. Down side is IT is more versital like the way it is. I think that is the way they will go in the future, or not. the ATP was a good seller, Mostly farmers and city/county governments bought them.

The Outy Max has an optional accessory BRP calls a "Rear Cargo Box"...you quick release the 2 up seat, and pop it in it's place in a matter of seconds....it has a tail gate that can also be moved to more in the middle of the box if desired....but it is NOT a dump box.  Accesory book says max payload of 260 lbs       retails for $389.97 US

I like the idea of "installing" the cargo box when you are going to be doing chores....and not having to be stuck with it on all the time when you are trail riding.

That is my main issue with the X2......Love the self storing convertable seat.....don't want to trail ride with a dump box permanently attatched .....If there was an option like you stated where you could remove or install it...I probably would have bought it when I was at the Polaris shop....instead, I finished my test drive, than went to check out the Outlander Max at the dealer that was just around the corner from the Polaris shop.

This was a BIG change of pace for a die hard Polaris guy like myself:yikes

I was a big polaris fan also and seriously checked out the x2 but after riding and checking out the 650 max , it wasnt a comparison. For trial riding and two up riding the outlander is much nicer than the x2. the x2 will make a nice work quad with the occasional two up rider though. The best thing on the x2 is the turf mode. i wish the brp had that.

If  i was looking for a 2up with more work cababilities now I would get the arctic cat 650 trv. There comfortable two up seats with an optional cargo box like the x2 and way more power than the 500 and has a diff lock.

That ADC system was supposed be on the 2006 but felt it wasn't perfected enough.

I just went to a place here in Kansas called Tuttle Creek OHV area that was started by jeepers and 4x4 trucks, and they had some major rock crawling trails. MY X2 did way better then I ever would have thought it would have. It did fantastic! Some guys there with jeep were impressed with how I was doing on some of the trails. I do not have winch yet so I was glad they were there to help spot incase I got in over my head and landed on my head:omg:.

Reads like an add for BRPS outty I see stormy is not the only one jumping ship I see the ship or tank weight is only 847lbs that's 157 more than the outty 800 max. Polaris must be adding weight  most of these peopl will be happy with out there popos at last they will save money towing.
