Does anyone know the horsepower ratings on the 650, 700, 750 prairies?

so, the 700 hundred I sold recently is about half the horse power than our beloved 800's!!!  it seems true cuz I can start from a stop and let the 700 get a full throttle head start and still beat it it in a 1/4 mile. If we both start at stop and go I just smoke it

No I wouldn't say half the hp.

700 prairie stock- just under 36 hp at the rear wheels

That was measured at the rear wheels and the BRP's 62 hp is measured at the crank. I'd venture a guess of a high 40's or low 50's rear wheel hp on the Bomb

I have a 650 that test about 28 RWHP stock and both 700's we have had were 32 RWHP stock. If I were to take a stab at it the BF 750 would come in around 37 RWHP.

37 might be just a little high. BRP says the 800 is about 39.5 at the rear wheels. when dyno'd thats what mine was bone stock.

The reason I asked was I was thinking that was likely the case, You are probably getting some significant wheel slippage on the dyno drum with the tires that come on the XT. A few years back when we first bilt my BB 800 Twin peaks motor we dynoed the machine and only gained about 6hp when compared to my stock motor Twin Peaks 700. It was the Bighorns that were causing the problem, We had used a OEM type tires with the soft compound they seemed to work allot better when testing the others and used the Bighorns when testing the new project 800 twin peaks because thats what I had on it when they were working on it,

The bighorns I believe have a similar type compound to that used on the XT model Outy's and would in effect lower your numbers in a similar fashion to the way way the bighorns effected mine, likely do to slippage. After that we decided to go ahead and get some dyno wheels made up and retest not only the new 800 bb motor but also the other stock motor to see the difference in a equal comparison. That changed everything the stock motor quad improved about 1-2 hp not a big deal but the 6hp difference we had before changed dramatically when we pulled the bighorns and test it with these dyno tires(car tires). We went from a 6-7hp difference to a 15hp difference. The tires  you see here in this pic are the same tires we test all of our machines with now. Even the outys since we got lucky and the Outy and the prairie/twin peaks all have the same bolt patterns.

The one thing I have noticed over the past few years is the only thing that seems consistent about wheel dyno's and quads is that there are so many variables that there is nothing contestant. What we are doing by using the same tires on all of our machines is eliminating as much inconsistency as possible and looking at the differences between the machines and tuning them on the dyno is its real asset anyway but for comparison I think we are getting pretty accurate numbers that seem to show out in the real world.

on the stock test the stock tires were fine but when adding the mods it started slipping. and it smoked up the tires when he put on the dual exhaust. now he is using a sport quad tire that he uses to test all the other bikes with. he just had to mill the 800's lug pattern in to it. good info though Ill pass this on to him

I think they may have been slipping a little even when it was stock, just based on how large the variance from the both of mine stock were 44.15 and 43.95 comparing to your stock number of 37 you mentioned earlier. We started to do that to a set of dyno tires they had there in the shop but the largest ones my guys had were only 22" and I was afraid it would wind out to fast to take a good reading since the clutching was setup for 25" tires.

I said .. to quote myself LOLOL ... "37 might be a little high."  That was for BF 750. the 37 was yer guess for what the BF was. I have compared my stock 39.5 numbers with others and it is the average number for 7 bikes on different dynos so far ranging from 39 to 40 HP.

Sorry I just scrolled up and glanced at that post to quick and grabbed the wrong number off it. the main difference must be in the tires. The last machine I had tested with nobby tires was my Sportsman 800 and I remmeber at the time there were 3 other guys around the country that had tested theres and we were all about the same around 36-38 as I recall. That was also why that 39-40 number just seemed off to me. Were any of the 7 non XT units?

Its no big deal, I was just wondering. I belong to 5 other forums and have seen numbers reported from 38-46 rwhp on stock 800's. I just like knowing why and how things work the way they do. I am sure some are just the differnce in BP, altitudes, temps ect, ect, and others are just differnces in things like tires and dyno operators also come into play.
