Ive never rejetted a carbed bike cause I changed the airfilter.Toss it on there and ride it... after a ride read the sparkplug it will tell you if everything is ok or not.

I don't think that you would NEED to with just the K&N. Some say that if you want to get peak performance that if you update one of exhaust/intake/fuel distribution then you should upgrade all of them. I did all three on my Rincon and I can tell you two things. 1. It did increase the hp noticible amounts. I say noticible because it is not going to give you double your hp, but you will notice the increases. 2. Getting the jet kit dialed in is not easy. Since you have to get to the bottom of the carb to make an adjustment, then put the airbox back in place with the cover on and take it for a test drive only to figure out that you are way off and need to start over. I think it took me 2 days of trial and error to get it dialed in. There are times when it seems close, but then you still get it better, only to make it worse.

I got kinda off topic, but anyway you could slap the K&N in and see how it does. What are you looking to get out of the K&N? The only reason that I ask is just because some people fall into the belief that by just adding the K&N you will get big hp gains, when that is not really the case. The gains by just the K&N will not be noticible.

Yeah, when I put a FMF pipe and a new filter on my KX250 I just about pulled out all my hair when I tried to rejet it.  I took me forever and it still wasnt perfect.

I plan on putting a new pipe on it some time this year, but cant really afford it right now since I just payed off all my tuition.  So right now its just one thing at a time for me.

Well if you plan on getting a pipe eventually you will for sure have to rejet for the pipe. I would just go ahead and get the filter and see how it runs with it. If it hurts performance, then pull it off and hold on to it for when you get the pipe and jet kit. That way you won't have to spend all the money at one time.

My wife has a Recon & when I added the K&N Airfilter - It got a dead spot at the top of the throttle.  I had to rejet to regain that 1/2 of second response I lost.  Normal riding, You probably would not notice.
