I think you definitely need some more drainage than just leaving the little tab out. Like down in the radius area, similar to what is on the center pc.

These sit much lower than the center and I was alittle concerned about sticks getting up in them.

I would think as long as water and whaever else, can find it's way out and not into anything, it should be OK. :2cent:

The factory guard has some slots in the bottom and it sits at about the same height from the ground. Being this one comes up higher in the rear and offers more protection, It could probably also hold more stuff in there, like ice, snow, and mud. Not that a drain would really help much anyway but it would at least let some out as it does on the center guard and on the factory outers.

Very nice detail though, same as the quality center guard!

Mike, just placed my order for the center guard yesterday! Like the looks of the outers. Only thing I see you might need though is an Alumatech sticker!:ban:

Drain holes across the lowest area like the center gaurd to let mud out. Also run the protection father up the arm ,just my 2 cents. I ride some pretty technical stuff and want all the protection i can get, looks great.

I did think of running further up th arm. It will run the price way up because of all the extra waisted material. I am going to narrow it as top gun sugested. Im going to  square the top flat section to be vertical to match the center along with running the same taper depending on the cost.

Mike  have you done a crush test or rock test on the rear inner edge? That looks like it could use some extra support!  Just a thought ! maybe you could double up on the edge! 2 inch strip. Like ricochett done on the front skid plate. 3/16 is strong but 3/8 is stronger. The factory guards flex & pop back in place. we need these to be really strong. And not bend. This is just my thinking!

I also see a potential problem with garbage getting stuck between the boot and the guard. If you get a chunk of anything stuck in here, when the suspension travels full range, the boot could get trashed.

Just throwing my .02 here, if you leave the bearing wedge out and remove this extra material, it might be enough drain area to keep the garbage from building up.

Good thing about forums is you can bounce these ideas back and forth, until you come up with the perfect design, or atleast a good comprimise . :)

That is true....Pros & Cons for everything in life. Minimal drainage will be fine if you rock crawl and trail ride. You need more drainage in the soupy muck with gravel, straw and whatever else. Just my :2cent:.    :)

I still like your design Mike. I want a set!!! If I feel that I need more open area, I'll fire up the plasma cutter :wavy:.

The other problem with putting holes or slots is it will compermise the bending. I wont be able to get a consistant roll and it could start tearing on the edges of the holes
