Did anyone go to the mud runs at the OHV park in Gilbert? I was planning on going, but had to go to wedding out of town. Just wondering what kind of turnout it had and there was some good runs???

We rode over there but got there  about the time they were ending so we didn't enter the event area. From what I was told this morning by someone that worked there: 6 entries in the pulling and about 10 in the mud...woo hoo

Boy am I glad I didnt drive up for the pull, if everyone else had a problem getting info on the events like I did its no wonder they didnt have a good turnout. I got no call backs or emails when I was trying to find out info for the events or if I did get ahold of someone they didnt know. Seems like it wasnt to organized, its to bad it could have been a big deal for that area.

That's a shame, I would have liked to see a nice big turnout. It would be not only good for the local economy, but it would be nice to get a yearly event like that started that would blossom into something big. Just look at how big the Spirit Mt. Snowcross race got. I used to race snowcross (about a decade ago in my glory days) and when I first started going to that race, there was average amounts of racers there, and no media coverage. You would maybe see a spot on the third page of the DNT. Now it's all over every news, and even on ESPN. Even the hill climb at Giants Ridge is starting to get really big. I know that snowcross is a little more exciting than an ATV mudbog, but the mud runs at the Embarrass Fair still pulls a big number of people each year.

I agree. They need to get their stuff together. I attended a meeting with these people a few months back and they did not have a clue about how to run this so they kind of left it up to a couple of ATV clubs to do it. I announced it to our club but didn't push it for personal reasons.

I was going to build their website for them but when they discovered I needed my costs covered(about $100 a year), they built that lame thing they have now themselves( I was volunteering all my time). They wanted to have zero money invested in this.

The mud pit must have had some hard obstacle in it because every wheeler came to a "sudden stop" in the exact same place.

They had gravel hauled in for the pull track and just spread it out, never packed it. Nobody made it past the 30' mark.

Maybe they have learned a few things and will be back next year...

They have such a wide variety of groups to appeal to; Jeeps, 4X4's, OHM's, everytype of ATV made. They should have an event every weekend.

I was there, announcing and there was more than that. Yes, you are right in saying it was poorly attended, but the weather was terrible and considering this was the first year...It will only get better.

Boy, it's too bad you didn't go, the more people, the better chance for bringing this event back.

As far as nobody getting back to you, who did you try to reach?

Have you ever had so much going on that it's next to impossible to even call your father who has cancer?

I guess it bugs me that a person is so critical of an event they didn't even attend.

<That's a shame, I would have liked to see a nice big turnout. It would be not only good for the local economy, but it would be nice to get a yearly event like that started that would blossom into something big.>

are you saying that because there wasn't a big turnout, it won't happen again? Well, I guess you're probably right in most cases, but since DARCI, who did have MANY other aspects of this event IN ORDER, she was able to secure grants that made this possible for this year and YEARS TO COME.

< Just look at how big the Spirit Mt. Snowcross race got. I used to race snowcross (about a decade ago in my glory days) and when I first started going to that race, there was average amounts of racers there, and no media coverage. Disappointing that there was NO media coverage at this event. I personally would say that the Virginia paper failed. You know how it goes with the editors, can't step on each others toes, so it was up to the Virginia paper to be there.

< I know that snowcross is a little more exciting than an ATV mudbog, but the mud runs at the Embarrass Fair still pulls a big number of people each year.>

ATV ....MUD...NOT exciting? .....LOL! I had a blast!

<I agree. They need to get their stuff together. I attended a meeting with these people a few months back and they did not have a clue about how to run this so they kind of left it up to a couple of ATV clubs to do it. >

Have you ever been in a leadership role and tried to get people to step up to the plate? Don't even go there! COME ON, because they didn't have a clue was a reason to step back and not help?

<I announced it to our club but didn't push it for personal reasons.>
Hmmmm.........Forgive, forget and move on.

<I was going to build their website for them but when they discovered I needed my costs covered(about $100 a year), they built that lame thing they have now themselves( I was volunteering all my time). They wanted to have zero money invested in this.>
Yah, I'll give you that, the website is pretty lame. I bet that if you would have been willing to help out with the site this first time around, they would have done everything possible to take care of you in years to come!

<The mud pit must have had some hard obstacle in it because every wheeler came to a "sudden stop" in the exact same place.>
oh yes, that was frustrating.  Remember tho, the DNR did the work.

<They had gravel hauled in for the pull track and just spread it out, never packed it. Nobody made it past the 30' mark.>
My husband made that observation too, I mentioned it to Darci, again. DNR

<Maybe they have learned a few things and will be back next year...>
Life is a learning experience, if you don't learn along the way......you've got a closed mind. YES, the event will be back next year and the following year, they're hoping to have it earlier in the spring. Wanna help out? :-)

HMMM I'm the president of an ATV club. I know about trying to get people to volunteer. It's usually not an easy task.

I would have been building, maintaining and giving them a domain name (atvmudrun.com) and website worth about $400 minimum, not including site maintenance. I was not going to pay for their server!

Need to recruit someone with pulling experience for track prep

I have no idea my the MDN was not there covering the event. Just a question, but did anyone call them and tell them about it??? The best way to ensure that you get the press, is to inform the press about it. If they were informed and did not show up, I apologive and rest my point, but if nobody did then someone really dropped the ball on that one. They had no problem covering the Jeep Jamboree, the Hummer weekend, and the ATVAM weekend two years ago, so I don't think it's some grudge against the park.

The point of my original post regarding the Duluth Snocross numbers, not only regarding media, but also the attendance of fans at the races. If my memory is correct, the paid attendance for last year's Snocross weekend was approximately 25000 people. So are you going to tell me that an ATV mud is more exciting???

LOL,  I am so NOT a winter person, so sno anything doesn't sound exciting at all!  I do hope that the Red Ore championship grows and grows! Hey, did I mention I won a trophy? yah, first place in the Powder Puff division. My morning show partner asked if I was the only one in the competition, ha ha. NO, there was ONE other gal! ha ha
Made it 64 ft. 2in. beat her by an inch! I need to figure out how to post pictures and share a few! I also take pictures and got a bunch of great pics!

On the media note, they did some prior stories and they were told of the event, but nothing over the week end. I totally understand the "need" to contact the media. Being in the media  myself.

Hey, have a great week end, suppose to be beautiful. I think we're heading to Thistledew.

Why would a club NOT be interested. I don't understand that. I guess i'm such a "dive in" person I don't get it.

I attend pulls in Mn, Wi and Ia and always call someone when going to a new place to find out what is going on. I was not going to drive 260 miles to a pull when I could not get direct answers to my questions. I hope to be able to come up next time and maybe they will be more organized. enough said. I am not hard to please just want some straight answers.
