This brings back memories, I was stationed at Ellsworth AFB back in 90-94.  We didn't have ATVs back then, but I did a lot of hunting around there.

The burros will bite, so you have to watch them.  The crazy horse monument is going to be very impressive, I just don't think I'll be around when it gets finished.  About once a year they had a volksmarch up there and you could walk the trails all the way up to the top, up by crazy horses head.  I'll have to go thru my pictures and see if I can find some from that far back.

If I had the time and money (instead of just the time) I'd love to go back there and do some riding.  I'd also like to go back up to the northwest corner of the state and go mule deer hunting at slim buttes state park.

Thanks for the pictures Outlandish

Great pics!  Looks like you had good weather up here.  I live in Rapid City and do alot of camping and riding up around Moonshine Gulch Saloon.(Rochford Area)  We camp up at Castle Peak, I will have to post some pics, pretty awesome up there.  It was nice to see that you had finally made it out here.  It's GREAT riding for the time being.  They are working on making a trail system which I'm sure will cut down on the amount of trails we will be able to access, but we will work with them and hopefully come out with something we can all live with.  Thanks again for the pics.   RCSparky!

Hey guys, I lived in Rapid City for the previous 6 years.  I still don't live to far from the Hills.  By far my favorite place to ride.  But, all of this is scheduled to change in the next 3 months.  Most trails will be shut down, and the "Open Unless Posted Closed" policy will be removed.  There is no changing the loss of the "OUPC" policy... sign of the times, but people can affect how many trails are "grandfathered" into the new system.  Call the Forest Service office in Rapid City and express your concerns.  I was contacted yesterday about this issue, and asked to ride as much single track (for dirtbikers) as possible in the next 3 months and map it with GPS.  This will be submitted to the FS.  I urge you quad riders to be vocal and express your concerns for you quad trails.  I will tried to find more official and detailed info to post back with.

Hey I just found this website because my family and I are planning on heading to the Black Hills to ride our ATV's.  I have been trying to find out as much as we can on where to stay and where to ride.  I don't think we can get our bikes licensed as you can't ride them on the streets in Nebraska.  So we need to stay in a hotel or lodge where we can basically ride out the parking lot and into the hills.  Any suggestions?

My family and I are looking at heading to the Black Hills with our four wheelers in June.  Looking for recommendations on where to stay and where to ride.  We are looking for the nice scenic type riding not the rock climbing adventure type.  We are from Nebraska and they do not license the bikes here so we need to stay somewhere we can basically drive out of the parking lot into the hills.  Any suggestions?
