Got some bad news. I just received an email from ATVAM. The Silver Bay  trails are closed due to excessive rain until the 20th at the earliest.

If you would still like to ride Thistledew on Saturday,  we can ride Big Aspen and the Gilbert ATV park on Friday.

If you are still coming I would recommend staying on the iron range instead of the north shore.

Please let me know if you are still coming. My apologies to all.

Hoping they don't close more,

Don

I just rode some of Big Aspen last Sunday and it is a nice ride.  It is probably a better ride than Thistledew for terrain.  I see one error on the map, the leg from 15 to 16 should definitely not be rated easy, it is steep, rocky and somewhat washed out two track.  Probably should rated difficult.  I rode 2-up up hill with the wife and did shift forward to the max, but kept all four on the ground and only bottomed out a few times.  Overall the trails are solid and in good condition with only a few mud holes, not deep (we just had 1.5 inches of rain Mon & Tue. so could be different now).  The trail markings (winter signs still up) for some of the area indicate it is closed to ATV's but the posted dates indicate that it is open so ride and have fun.  I found the trail signs in the southeast area were very confusing and it is easy to get out of the authorized trail system and be off into never-never land to the southeast. Don't know where those trails end up, but could be private or corporate land.

See you there

I will be calling and checking on these trails (thistledew and big aspen) Monday. If they are closed we have an alternative for at least one day :hp:

Would have to load up and haul them. It's only about 20 miles from there but no trails between them

Hope this incessant rain stops. Down here in SE WI it's been raining off and on everyday for two weeks. My grass is 12" deep, can't cut when it's wet.

At least for the riding we won't have to contend with any dust!  :tg:

Dust will not be a problem:lolol:

Big Aspen is open and will be open this weekend.

Waiting for a call back on Thistledew but is posted CLOSED on the website.

There is also Stony SpurII which is a 26 mile long trail out of Babbitt......pretty boring though

Silver Bay and Thistledew are the best trails we have and they are closed.

Anyone that still wants to come up, we will ride somewhere. Maybe even local trails but some of these are not designated

We will be at Big Aspen at 10 on Friday and if you guys come, we can take it from there.......OK where are those Rolaids:lolol: Should have planned a fall ride :hp:

It appears that Thistledew is closed too. I personally think that Big Aspen and Stony Spur are kind of boring trails but I will leave it up to you guys if you still want to come ride, we will be at Big Aspen at 10am on Friday

The Stony Spur II ATV Trail begins in Babbitt and runs eastward, south of Bear Island State Forest.

Outlandish, I won't be able to make the ride, not because the good trails are closed, but because my brother needs some help getting the resort ready for the summer rentals. His wife is not much help when it comes to these things!

I was looking forward to finally riding some trails in the state, but I guess it will have to be another time.

Sorry, hope you have a good turn out, and have some descent weather.

Don't bother bringing a boat.  Just put your waders on, go out about waist deep (a couple hundred yards) cast out with a leech and you'll have your limit ( 2 fish in the slot) within 15 minutes.  Done!
