Fasst Flexx Handlebars Installation]Outlander 800 XT MAX]

Hey Folks,

It’s me again here to share with you all the details of the Fasst Flexx Quad Racer series handlebars installation for my 08 Outlander 800 XT MAX. First off here is what I bought:

Fasst Flexx Quad Racer 31” 14 degree sweep // Part# SL1003-14-31

  1. Universal 7/8 to 1 1/8” mount adapter (This part did not fit and was designed for dirt bikes. I had to modify the hell out this adapter to get it to fit. More on this later)
  2. Powermadd Handguards (red/black) with installation hardware
  3. Powermadd wrap around kit
  4. Spidergrip A3 handlegrips
Cost: Almost $500 – Well worth every penny !!!

Okay now some words about these parts. The handlebars are all aluminum and the craftmenship is second to none. Every detail of these handlebars was addressed the end user and come with 4 polymer bushings soft, medium, medium stiff, and stiff. The red bushing is the stiffest and what was installed from the factory. Chris from Fasst Flexx recommended leaving it for a bike this big. So I did and will have the opportunity to test them at the Pool Ranch ride Sunday. The Powermadd equipment was also of high quality and fit just like the instructions stated. I was truly biting my knuckles when I had to fork over that much money just for some handlebars, guards, and grips but once they got here and I finished the install, they simply paid for themselves and I’m sure they will out perform their appearance which is why I bought them.

Okay now for the write-up. First off, the install would have went a lot quicker if it weren’t for that damn universal adapter was made for dirt bike/sport quad which have the lower half of the handlebar perch built into the steering head. The Outlanders don’t have but a flat mounting plate with 4 mounting holes. This of course pissed me off since I was told they would work. Well I had to do some serious thinking and I ended up having to grind about ¾” of the bottom of the adapter which wasn’t going anywhere since my grinder wheel was clogged with aluminum burnt into the wheel. By this point (2 hours later) I was desperate and broke out the sawz all and took the excess metal off in 2 minutes. The piece I cut off was half a handlebar size chuck of aluminum in order to have a flat surface to mount to the steering head. Check out the PIC.

Then it was time to mount the adapters and low and behold the bolt holes in the adapter were too wide. ARGGGGGGGGG!! I broke out the dremel and grinding tool and elongated the insides of the mounting holes and then it mounted up. Thank God.

Now that the adapters were in place, I mounted the handlebars. This was easy and mounted up just fine. I then mounted the handlebar components and adjusted the handbars and the components to fit my just right. Then I pressed on the new A3 Spider Grips. I was having a damn hard time with them so I used some good old fashion spit and coated the handlebars and they went on pretty easily with some cohersion. The grips are the longer, thicker, more comfy model hand grips designed for ATVs. They are very comfy and grippy.

Now it was time to mount the Powermadd hand guards and protective wrap around kit. Mounting the handguards together with the wrap around kit takes some adjustment to get them to mount up correctly. The right side mounts up pretty easily, but the left side needs more adjustment from the brake lever component. Here is how I did it. I mounted the wrap around kit to the hand guards first. Then I drilled a ½” hole in each end of the grips in order to install the lag bolt assembly inside the handlebars. I then mounted the lag bolt assembly on each end of the wrap kit and then installed each hand guard/wrap kit in each side of the handlebars. I then mounted the hand guard mounting assembly to each side of the handlebars. The kit comes with spacers and other hardware so you can get the guards to fit. I had to use a spacer on the right side hand guard because of the wide throttle lever component.

Once I got them in place and everything adjusted, I then tightened the allen bolts and screws for the wrap kit and hand guard assemblies. Voala!!! Finally 5 hours later. So now for a little test. I live on a acre of land and have a nice little 3 foot hill with some rocks and so I hit that at about 20 mph and got good and airborne, the bike launched and landed perfectly and the handlebars flexed perfectly along with the Works shocks. It was beautiful I tell you. The shorter bars and the rake of degree allow for quick and precise steering. These handlebars are just awesome. I then went ahead and did some side to side transitions with some fast pace drifting through my yard and I was just in awe…Man I can’t wait to hit the trails this weekend to get a full rundown.

Welp that’s it folks, this mod was worth every penny. If you choose to get these bars be sure to ask for the adapter for a flat mounting plate if they have them, otherwise you will be doing what I had to do. Use the sawz-all, it worked beautifully.  I bought everything from GT Thunder 330-674-7122 // Ask for Lazereth. This guys only carries this series of handlebars and has many in stock. I called 4 different places for these handlebars and all of them would have had to order them.

There you go folks. Enjoy

 Super Steve

Not a bad deal Steve, but I got a better deal on mine. Free from my father. Makes a hell of a Christmas present. As a matter of fact it is the exact same model, too.

Nice write up Super Steve , I have my Fasst bars on order(actually back order). I'm looking forward to installing them. I'll be using my custom mount to the column, then Roxspeed 2" risers to the Fasst bars, hopefully I won't have cable issues.

Those fast flex bars are awesome!Great write up also Steve! That practicly eliminate all arm pump on a mx track on the sport quads. They really make a big difference in feeling the impacts.

Thanks FMJ,Qaudzilla, and Duke...

Felles, let me tell you something, I had a chance to really work these handlebars, my Works shocks, PSS, and tires at Pool Ranch in Athens and I'm here to tell you these bars worked directly with the dampening of the shocks, I rode for the whole weekend like a criminal and my arms, shoulders, or any part of my upperbody was not sore at all.

I switched to the yellow medium sitff bushings and that made a world of difference. THey flexed more and the control was improved dramatically. The postioning of the Quad racer and the 14 degree sweep gave my bike a much more sporty feel and allowed me to really turn in and out or the apexes so much smoother. No vibration or any negative feedback. The 1" shorter bars really enabled me to transition alot faster too.

These bars rock!!!

SuperSteve:

Hope you don't mind a few questions... I have never been on a bike/quad with flex bars. In fact, I only recently read about them on this forum.

How much flex is there? I ride washboard trials/road sometimes... would these help keep my hands from numbing?

Looks great! Thanks for the pics!

Eric

Eric Absolutely...These bars original design was for MX racer and God knows those race teams take a beating through the course..

Then the sports quads got a hold them and reaped the same benefits. Now they have made there way to us utility guys. In all scenarios, the flexx bars relieve arm pumps, almost eliminate fatigue, and vibration through the bars from the motor/drivetrain is gone (no more numbing)

You don't really notice the bars flexxing but they do and they flex a little more as you go with a lower durameter bushing but still the flex is not noticable. How I knew the immediate difference was no arm pumps and soar tried arms and shoulders through rough terrain...

Steve,

I noticed you had to modify the mount quite a bit. Do they make a mount that is specifically made for this application? Or are you going to have to make modifications regardless? How would you rate the relief to your shoulders? I think this just may be my next purchase.

OHP,

Somenody may actually have an adapter for it but I have yet to find it. What others have done here they use the stock handerbar mounts and buy the 2" ROX risers. I saw a PIC somewhere here with a guy that using the these risers and stated they work fine. I was already commited and did the work myself. I didn't really have an action plan with how I was going to get the universal adapters to work until about 2 hours of trying to grind aluminum woke me up to a better idea (sawz-all and dremel) After I got those ideas the modification to the adapters took about 5 minutes. It was quite easy with the right tools. (Plus I didn't want my handlebars to high)

You asked about rating of shoulder releif...1-10 (10 being the best relief) 10!!!!!!!! There was no shoulder aches..That was my biggest issues before these bars...I would ride for 4 hours or so and I went home aching everytime. They are worth the big cost and in just 2 rides since the purchase, the bars have definitaly paid for themselves
