What grease Should you use? NLGI 0, 1, 1.5 or 2?
Lithium, general purpose or Moly?

Why is it that using anything other than factory oil filter will void warranty?

They can't void your warranty for using a different filter unless they supply their filters free of charge.

I was looking in my operator's guide for outlander and saw that the recommended oil for it needs to meet or exceed API classification SM, SL, or SJ.

The mobil oil exceeds the requirements of API Service Categories SH, SG/CF, CD, JASO MA.

I don't know what all of that means, other than they are not the same. Is it still safe to use, will the dealer say anything if I need dealer service, and can they even tell?

I do not know which Outlander you have, but my 800 manual from CanAm specifies “SAE 5W30, 4 stroke mineral based API classification SG, SH, or SJ or XP-S 5W40 synthetic 4 stroke oil.”

Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 exceeds the requirements of API Service Categories SJ, SH, SG/CF, CD and JASO MA.

It is safe to use and the dealer won't say anything. It is always good to have receipts and a maintenance record.

I tried to post, just the chart that is about a third of the way down, but that didn't work,   Anyway everything you need to know(and more)about oils is here.

It clears up the confusion about the SJ, SH, and the current SM ratings.

How often are you folks changing your motor oil in the Outlander 800?  50 hrs 100hrs how often? I have an 06 Outy 800.  I just changed the motor oil with 75 hours on it and I don't think I will let it go that long again. Time got away from me having a good time on the Outy. Man that oil was dirty. I'll be doing it at 50 hrs from now on.   I use Castrol 5/30 synthetic.

In my owners guide it says every 50 hrs.  But I saw on BRP's web sight, the guide for the 2007 Renegade I believe (cant find it now), and it stated regular motor oil and filter changes at 100 hrs.  Is there any difference between renegade engine and Outy both being 800's?  Did BRP increase the hrs for oil change in 07&08 models?  What do your 07 and 08 owners guide says as far as recommended oil changes.  Just Curious.

Thanks, WB

In my 07 shop manual it states the 500, 650, 800, and renegade at 100 hours.

10-4 I thought I remembered that correctly.  Are you changing it at 100 HRS?  What oil are you using?   Thanks for your response.

I have the 2006 Shop Manual and is says to change the oil and filter "EVERY 50 HOURS or 1500KM (930 miles)"  I sure would not wait until 100 hours no matter what I read. These take quite an abuse with dirt.

Yes, every 100 hours. I don't play in the mud though and if it's that dusty I don't want to ride anyway.

I use amsoil 0w-40 and HIFLO filters.
