Does anyone know if the 800 air filter is the same as the 400 Outlander? I do believe there is a K&N filter for the 400. I am assuming the ECM would adjust for more airflow. If it does this then piping etc would require no other changes be made.

You can use one of the universal round K&N filters, and there should be a pre-filter "sock" for dusty areas available for that filter too. They don't have the new complete lid and filter unit yet for the 800. I think it was on ATV Frontier that there was a thread with a model number and a size spec on the 800 filter. Do a "search" under Bombardier and K&N. I'd do it but I'd lose this memo. I put a universal one on my Traxter and cut off the air horn inside the air box. Couldn't tell if it ran any better. Also put on titanium tip plugs and a modified mffler. Carbs don't adjust the way fuel injection will. Don't put any additional oil on the filter before you put it on. Over oiling filters has screwed up the MAP sensor wire.

Here's the K&N filter. Filter $85.00 Pre-filter (black or red) $26.38 This the best one. It draws air from both sides and top and it has a velocity stack configuration inside. There are also units with a sealed top for in the $60+ price range plus the prefilter. Go to "Car Parts" (don't have web address yet, receipt coming) and filter is $55.80 and prefilter is $17.32. Much better. Sent for mine tonight. Here is web address: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com I found a K & N Filter that I think will work great what Do you guy's think http://www.knfilters.com/sear...=RX-3820-1 Last edited on Wed Oct 19th, 2005 07:41 am by turboman ____________________ 800 MaxXT,25"XTR's.RAM GPS,Twin-Air, Ricochet,ELKA fronts,EBC pads,Kevlar cable,PIAA bulbs,grip-reinf's,Leeds hitch,Precision damper,1" Rr spacers,Iridium plugs,Rene'wgts,OEM w/shield,OURY grips,WestCo coated muffler,Saeng mirrors, flares,AGM bat |

What kind of bike to you have? I never measured my filter, assuming the guy that did knew what he was doing. I already ordered the RX-3820-1, which has the velocity stack interior and open top. You're right OEM is 2.25". But the closest one with the velocity stack is 2.438". That's .09" per side bigger. I can wrap vinyl duct tape around the neck and the K&N has a rubber neck that squashes. I want the open top and velocity stack (only for off-road vehicles). It will be more efficient. By the way the air cleaner does not come out as in owners manual. Dash pod has to be pulled loose and a couple clips are bummers. Thanks for the heads up on the filter mwbmod74 and welcome to our forum. You have the most radical 800 I have seen yet WVR I haven't messed with the airbox yet but heard it can be tough. Turboman how much more performance will you gain with the velocity stack type filter?

You have the most radical 800 I have seen yet Don't really know how much of a gain with the internal velocity stack. But it is labelled for "off-road use only" so it must effect the air fuel ratio enough that a carbureted auto could flunk an emission test. The fuel injection ECM will adjust to accomodate. If it can self compensate from below sea level to 8000 ft. than the air flow change is small peanuts.

It doesn't really pay to put on a K&N or an aftermarket muffler until after you've reached the 350 mile mark and the ECM gives you full power with advaced timing and enriched mixture. I wonder if that 350 figure has anything to with the mandatory 10 hour "checkup"? Maybe the dealer gives it the "boost" with his laptop during the inspection. Anybody know for sure? Any air cleaner improvements likely wouldn't be noticeable until after the boost. It's going to take 10-14 days to get the filter anyway. At the rate I'm been going it'll be forever until I hit 350. Same way with the Traxter. Spent so much time installing stuff and waiting for packages I had little time for riding. Always seemed to be a reason for "not today, maybe tommorrow..". Too cold, looks like rain, got to cut the grass, etc. Got to break that habit. It's easier to fall into that trap when you always go alone. No committments. No one to give excuses too.

I just had my 10 hour service. When my dealer was resetting the computer, he said at anytime after that it could change over. Most guys are seeing this around 200-250 mile range.

I may be wrong but I odered the 2.49" with the velocity stack. Even if the inlet tube is 2.25" I'll just wrap one layer of the black rubber mounting tape (approx. 1/8" thick) with the green backing, peel off the backing, and put a couple wraps of vinyl electrical tape over that to cover up the "stickiness" so the filter won't get glued on. That will increase the inlet neck diameter very close to 2.49". It won't really pay to do anything until I'm past 300 miles and getting full advance and proper fuel. Which, at the rate I'm going will sometime in 2008.

Even a few miles every day will Problem for me is every place to ride is at least a two to three hours drive away. 4-6 hours round trip. Any club rides leave the trailhead at 900am. Usually that means I have to leave the house between 500 & 600am. Everything is soaking wet with dew. Especially the woods at 900am. Thoroughly soaked usually by 1000am. I'm trying to push for "senior/retired" rides where the group doesn't leave until 1100am. There's enthusiasm, but little activity. Riding on WEEKDAYS is when the trails and restaurants and roads aren't crowded. Businesses appreciate the extra customers during the week when it's usually slow. Improves the public's impressions of ATVers when they have grey hair and no hair. Better utilizes the trails when they don't get much usage. All beneficial to the sport. That K&N filter looks like the one on my Silverado cold air intake system. Might have to check it out.

Ok the intake diameter is 2.25. What is the length and width of the filter?

Didn't put it on yet because it's been so cold, and there's that damn cowling fit. Never did get the two pins in the front to go all the way into the holes. Be sure to get the prefilter sock. Threw away the wrapper so can't give the number but it's on earlier posts. It came in a separate envelope. Got HMF aluminum muffler sitting in a box up on the foyer. Checked with dealer and MAX and Std. mufflers both have the same part number. Looks like an easy install. HMF website has a full photo installation. Matter of fact, speaking of uninstalled stuff.. got two RAM mounting arms (GPS and cup holder) and a kevlar winch cable on the desk. Wife is getting a little suspicious but hasn't said anything. Turboman, Sounds like you have some work to do, I know you hate it.. LOL Question on the HMF, which version did you get? Utility, QRS, or Penland ? What about the Dobeck box that the site says in required? Did you get one of those also? I would really like to chance the exhuast, but I am just looking for a little more throaty sound and whatever performance I can get. I dont want something that is so loud that no one will want to ride behind me. You know? Cant wait to hear your feedback on the new setup. Thanks
