Has anyone experienced noise from the front axle?  I've noticed it only in 2-wheel drive. When its in 4-wheel drive theres no noise. It sounds like a sporatic humm. Like this :  humm......pause    humm....... pause   humm.... then you might not hear it for say 10 sec.  But like i say its sporatic.  The dealer didn't hear anything and suggested maybe a bent rotor. To me it sounds like something is rubbing. I thought it was dirt underneth the front springs but when i looked at the springs when i was riding the noise didn't coincide with it. I'm gonna drain the axle fluid and check for metal. Any idea's ?

I had these same symptoms.  Only in 2wd, sporatic and gets progressively worse.  I tried everything to find it.  Finally got frustrated and took it to the dealer.  It turned out to be my rotors were warped and a bit chewed up.  I would never have associated them with the noise but probably worth a check.  Mine warped less than a couple hundred miles after putting EBC pads on.  Not sure why as I replaced all three rotors and then installed Ferodos with no problems.

Hey steve800,

Thanks for your reply about your rotor noise. I believe your right about mine. When i first got my outlander the front brakes made alot of noise when the rotors got wet and you applyed them, i replaced the pads with EBC severe duty pads and that noise went away. The other noise started a while later.

Yes, I have full skids by Richochet.  I ordered them from ATV Outfitters.  Very good skids and a must for the outty.  http://www.atvoutfitters.net/ricochet_skidplates.htm

I went with OEM replacement rotors.  I can't recall how much they were but was surprised that they were less than brake pads!  Most have the EBC SV pads with no problems but they didn't work well for me.  I was getting the grinding noise even when not applyinig the brakes, but only in two wheel drive????  I thought it was a driveshaft ujoint or even the front diff until the dealer took a look.  I have the Ferodo pads now with stock rotors and haven't noticed any problems yet.
