I have heard people talk about a K&N filter and I can not locate any from them, also what about the benifits from ceramic coating the pipes.

Anybody know if K&N has an exact fit filter for the 8'er yet?

k&n does make a filter, you can prchase from Can Am dealer in portland or the outdoor toy store in carson wa. ron woods makes a killer full exhaust system, we have put a NOS system on 800 renegade, looking now for rev box, see you are in oregon?

An exhaust will give you a little bit of mid range gain IMO but it's impossible to increase your top speed.   I much prefer the look and sound if my HMF but can't say I got on it and went WOW when I punched the throttle.

I think a full or maybe a dual exhaust is the way to go, maybe tweak the clutching.   The consensus here seems to be that the EFI programmers offer no performance gains and most who have had them have removed them and went back to stock settings.  I don't think you'll notice any gain with a K&N, I put on a Twin Air and couldn't tell a difference from stock, the stock filter looks like it filters much better though, probably more important down the road.

I figure, I can flip the thing over from a dead stop, damn, how much  more do I need?

Do a search of CC1999 in this forum, he has a lot of dyno results posted with fuel programmers, exhausts etc.  Might answer most of your questions.

Posted this b4 and I will take a min and type it out again.  My bro has an 07 Honda 450R with a HRC kit, full Fat Boy exhaust and geared down 2 teeth in the back.  We raced on the pavement 3 or more times each step to get a fair reading and on the pavement to eliminate tire spin.

First race I as bone stock, his quad was the same for all races.  Lost pretty bad 6-7 quad lengths.

Second race.  K&N and Dalton clutch kit.  I picked up about a quad length.

Third race.  I know they are not a site sponser but I put on an Aaen slip on.  But I got to say the fit and finnish was perfect.  Anyway back to the race here.  Installing I wanted to see what the baffolding was like inside so I pulled the cap and it was a tiny baffold so what the heck I left it out.  So onw it was a bit more free flowing.  Out to the pavement I was at his pegs.  I looked at him after the first race and was like WTF?  Miss a shift???  So we raced 4 more times and the same thing every time.

Now I dont know how much the pipe helped by it self or if it was just a right combo but it rocks.  BTW my bro can drive like a man possesed, but hes got money so I guess it makes up for lack of common sence :tg:

The only reason to change out air filters would be for maintenance, Uni's and Twinairs are easily cleanable. (K&N )

Coating the exhaust will cool down the "heat issue" some, reduces the rusting, and you can get them in alot of different colors. It supposedly will up the hp a micro-tad by the gasses being able to flow faster .

I think the only way to get significant gains is to do some internal engine work, and/or the ron woods exhaust.

:2cent:
