What's the popular opinion on the correct oil to use in the 800.

The dealer says if I run an conventional oil in it, I can run any 10w-40. ( non synthetic)

BUT... if I want to run a fully synthetic oil in the 800, I HAVE to use Bombardier brand synthetic oil ONLY. No Amsoil! or other brands for that matter.

Does anybody know anything about this?

Thanx.

You can use Amsoil or any other synthetic that meets the minimum requirements stated in your owners manual. Our site sponsor is a Amsoil dealer and can explain more  http://aurorawheelers.com/forum33/

BTW I believe the Bomb oil is Castrol

Thanks, I really could'nt see how the use of a high quality synthetic oil such as Amsoil would cause any harm.

I regularly use Amsoil and have been pleased with the results.

Anyway... the service manual is on the way, I'll see what it has to say.

Anyone know what oil goes in the sub transmission? Is it the same as the engine? Can't find anything specific other than use chaincase lube.

I agree.  Local dealer was out of Bomb oil and told me to buy Castrol R4 instead for my 50 hour service.  The service guy told me thats what they were using in all the Bombs for the 10 hour service since "it was the same stuff".

As long as the oil you are using meets the requirements set forth by Bomb you can use any oil you wish. By law a manufacturer cannot void a warranty for using an aftermarket brand unless it can be proven that it caused the problem. If they require that you use their brand only they must provide it free of charge to you.

Magnuson-Moss Act.

In a 0w40 I suggest the Amsoil AFF.
In a 10w40 I would suggest the Amsoil MCF Motorcycle which has a great anti-corrosion package which is nice for a ATV.

factory brp oil is castroil . the brp synthetic $10 a quart stuff is castroil syntec .

use a standard oil for the first 800 to 1000 miles to help season the internal parts  then go synthetic .

for the tranny fluid the brp stuff is like $15 for 12oz you need like 14oz .  when we changed mine at the 10 hour service there was a minor bit of tooling debris on the magnet of the tranny plug .

I've got a quite a lengthy article here with charts and grafs. And the ones with the most anti-wear additives top three in order are  1.golden Spectro  2.Spectro 4 and 3.BMW M/C.   Top three in acid Neutralizers 1. Amsoil  2.BMW Super Syn and 3. Valvoline Racing.  Test included the additives amounts in -- phosp-zinc-Boron-Mag.-Cal..  Acid neutralizers are important, but my personal most important would be anti-wear. So I will most likely go with Spectro 4 witch is the best price and the acid neutralizers are not that much lower.:2cent:  PS.---   Castrol Synth is 2nd. absolute lowest in anti-wear and 5th. highest in acid neutalizer witch puts it pretty close to the bottom of the list. Of the 14 differant oils in the test.

I personally use Amsoil in all my vehicles and am very satisfied with it. I also use their gear lubes and grease for my wheelers. Pretty sad to see that Castrol is the lowest and thats what Bomb uses......

Golden Spectro is a Syn/Blend and Spectro 4 is Petrolium base.   IF ONE WAS STRAIGHT SYN AND THE OTHER PETROLIUM- NO.  But with the blend I dont know. I'm not a petrolium engineer.

Oil is another hot topic on all the vehicle forums. There are a lot of good oils both dino, full synthetic and blends. I have sent in several samples for analysis over the 90K miles on my Duramax. Three were name brand synthetics and all showed wear metals below average. I don't think there is a bad name brand oil. More important is follow the maintenance to the letter. Later! Frank

we have always ran castrol syn.

Now as far as the gearcase oil, my dealer didnt even have the right stuff for it. The idiots were trying to get me to run 80w90 weight in it, i told them they were a bunch of idiots. I am still trying to find some to put in it. but my goodness you have to buy 2 bottles of the stuff just to get enough and thats at least $20 thats ridiculous!!!!

someone on here determined that bomb chaincase oil was actually Redline synth.chaincase oil (70w140, GL-5). I used the quaker state version cause crappy tire carries it (75w140,GL-5,synth).It needs changing alot more than the diffs from what ive read and seen in mine.

Yep, in a phone call to Red Line they told me that they do the private lable for BRP chaincase oil. Red Line 75-90 full syn is what I use and it shifts much better. i use 75-140 full syn in the diffs. Prob could use 75-90full syn in everything, except the engine I use castrol 5-40 full syn. It ain't the space shuttle ya know.

I use Amzoil 75-90 in the tranny and diff. I went to dealer to buy the tranny oil and they bounced me back and forth between parts and service. neither knew s--t. A friend of mine worked in tech support at Amzoil educated me a little. We looked over my owner, service & engine manual and found G5 rating, nowhere could we find anything about using 75-140 in the tranny. He set me up with 0-40 for engine (colder climate) and Amzoil marine lube 75-90 for tranny and diff. suppost to still have excellent lube propertys with up to 10% water. Redline was a bottom bouncer on all there testing, Mobil 1 was on top with Amzoil. BRP's oil filter looked better quality than Amzoils-more pleating. :2cent:

75-140 is for really heavy loads like in the rear differential of my Duramax towing  max load all day every day. I cannot see the need for it in our ATVs. I am an avid believer that if I pay attention I will learn something new every day. (even at my age) Later! Frank
