I called Customer Service with Bombardier and they informed me that there is no upgrading to the 55w bulbs.  Not being satisfied with their answer I called Philips Lighting Company USA (Bulb: Philips HS1 #12636 35/35W Type/Base PX43T) and they informed me that the bulb is made in Germany and there is no higher wattage bulbs for the PX43T Base.

Summary:  I used the instructions in the Official Service Manual and realligned the headlights (off, but not by real far) and that helped.  I installed two Optronics Driving Lights (35w) and got the 55W bulb Upgrade for them at the same time.  Big difference!  I am attaching a photo of the Driving lights I installed on the Motovan Front trunk Box in front of the Lowrance Color Chart Plotter / GPS.  I hope this Research helps someone.

Those are the exact same lights i was thinking of adding.  I dont have a box on front so i was going to mount them on the back part of the rack by the counsel.  How did you route the wires?  Did you have to drill through the plastic?  If so where?  How did you connect the wires? To what power source?  Where did you mount the switch, Is it sealed?  Sorry for all the questions.  Need the lights because if i plow at night the stock lights hit the rear of my plow.

Well I just ordered mine.  I hope I needed to select 2 for the 55 watt bulbs at $7.99 each. If you can take some more pics of the install and hook up for me.  I was debating getting these for a while.  I hope the back part of the rack will be high enough to get over my plow blade and not put alot of light on the rack and front of quad.  Thanks, Roaddog

hey guy's. i swapped the front headlight bulbs with Sylvania 9003 st/2 bulbs and the fit and work fine. there really bright compared to what's in there. i don't know why there telling you different. the only drawback is the price but i got them on ebay for like 25 bucks for the pair.

Thanks Brewster.  I will definatly check out the lights and see if they fit.  Roaddog, the light kit comes with a waterproof switch and all types of hardware to fit them and everything you possibly would need to make it work.  Since the lights are on top of my front box it has a lot of clearance.  One thought (Like I did on my wife's Rincon) is to mount them on some 1/2" CPVC pipe nipples (around 6" long) and for the 2" round base just U-bolt it to the rack if you don't have a box.  I picked all this up at Lowe's Hardware for about $10.

Hey there 1/2 stuck............im wondering not being an electrical type of person, can you run the factory lights along with the auxiliary lights without over tasking the charging system, or do you just run the auxiliary lights only and is there a significant difference in the light that they provide..........thanks for your help............spicyman

Confused. the dealer told me it's a H4 bulb.  I've got a pair of PIAA's H4's sitting on the shelf, haven't installed them yet because it's been so cold in the garage.

In the Owners Manual the bulb install photos they look the same as H4s?

This is weird.

The headlights seem to provide a longer/farther beam. The driving lights I have add a flood like fill and makes it look liike daylight almost lol. How does yers look Half Stuck?

On the back side of my Quick Release Motovan Front Trunk Box I installed a backlighted Volt meter and monitored the voltage while running both bright headlights AND the pair of 55W driving lights for over 1-1/2 hours straight while night riding two nights ago.  The voltage never dropped below 13.5vdc showing a possitive charge.  (12.6vdc is a fully charged battery) So all the lights and all the accessories were running totaly off the Stator (400w output at 6000rpm so the book says).  Not a problem.  I probably could have run another set along with it without any problems.  Just in case I have mounted a duplicate battery as the main outty battery inside the trunk.  I like to be able to run the driving lights seperatly if need be to light up the swim holes on our night runs (obviously Summers only). :)

If you guys can't tell yet I run the Electrical Division onboard a Drilling Rig so my handywork shows that.  I love these projects.  :dan:

Nice work Half Stuck.

Other than rigging something up myself does anyone know if there is a light kit that would mount to the handle bars so I would always have a light pointing the way I am turning.  I already asked the company that makes that sweet windshield and they said it would be to expensive to make a new mold so they wont be adding one.

Check out SaengTA.com website.  They have their own line of mountings for about everything including high intensity, small size motorcycle lites that have received favorable comments in cycle magazines.

My "link" didn't work, use Google.

From what I've been reading in this thread, I'm not sure if I trust the dealer's statement that H4's will work.  9003 and H4 aren't the same are they?

I've got a pair of PIAA's H4 Super Plasma GTX 135/120W bulbs on my desk I haven't installed yet (cold outside, laziness).  :cold

Are you sure your PIAA's are 150W? Couldn't find anything like that in the PIAA sites?

Checked that E-bay site. Something isn't right. A 150W bulb would never be "yellow", according to the kelvin scale on the PIAA site.  Hope it's not a scam.

Yea yea....that's it, lets try some 500w Mercury Vapor lights and mount the ballast next to the auxilliary generator, maybe that will finaly melt the plastic.  :roflao:

I thought the lights on the 800 were pretty good. They are a lot brighter than my 400 lights are. The 400XT's had this nifty little accessory bar in front of the handlebars that I wish the 800 had. The lights turn with the handlebars. I bet there would be a way to mount lights on the VIP-AIR fairings........

Great responses guys, lots of good info here.  I will wait to see how the different lights perform in further discussions, thanks for the help.

i can tell you the plastic does get a bit warm with the 9003 bulbs but there is a fair amount of distance between the bulb and lens so i don't fore see a problem. but those 150w bulbs i would be careful with. i doubt those lenses are cheap.
