I gave my new Outty 800XT a good test this weekend.  The bike walks circles around my Honda 650 Rincon in every way except the ride.  I found that even on the softest shock setting it is still a very rough ride.

Example:  If the left front tire rolls over a shoe box sized rock the other 3 wheels should stay on the ground, but instead the right front and left rear wheels can come off the ground making a teeter-totter effect.  Has anyone  heard of any aftermarket shocks for this bike that will not be so hard to compress that would allow ALL the wheels to stay on the ground AND allow a less jolting ride?  The shocks would be fine if I did a lot of jumping, but I do a lot of casual trail riding and technical terain and don't like them that rough.

Half stuck welcome aboard! Yours sounds like a unique problem. Haven't heard too much on the shocks being to stiff. Check out the Outlander Ground Clearance thread on here.......

Too Stiff?

Man, you got different shocks than everyone else has.

Can you get some pics, model numbers

Maybe Bomb started using a different spring

I have to agree with everyone else, the biggest complaint they are too soft. People are wanting stiffer shocks.

Now I don't know what to think.  I am very happy with the bike in all aspects but the bumpy ride, but every bike has some sort of weak point somehow.  This is a new bike right off the showroom floor so maybe they did change the shocks up.  I will try and call Bomb Customer Service today and ask.  On the other hand maybe I am just spoiled to the Rincon's plush ride, who knows.

The Rincon's ride is somewhat plusher but not a whole lot. With my springs on the softest setting my 800 just glides over most bumps.  It sounds like the difference between my 400's. The 03 had a very plush ride compared to the 05 which is kinda stiff. Good luck with customer service:sm:

I called Bombardier Customer Service.  They ran my Serial Number and informed me that my bike was given the new Shock Upgrade.  I guess I will just have to let some air out of my tires to make up the difference so it will ride smoother.

Maybe the upgrade that they are talking about is the single stage first run shocks to  the upgrade dual stage that they went with.

My front Shocks have a single spring.  Do the new shocks have a dual spring?  Maybe Bombardier was wrong and I got the old springs.  :hp:  Maybe they threw me a line of bull so they would not have to send me the new springs.  Any comments?  Does anyone know what's what?

Is your Outy a single seater, or Max?

I have outlander #65. My fronts are a Dual rate single springs. Meaning that the top coils are tighter togther than the bottom.

I recieved an E-Mail from works performance today and they said they should have shocks available later this month.

I have Outty # 693 and it has the Single front Spring.  The rear has a double spring with the smaller one on bottom.

I might have found the problem, but am not sure.  I am running the 27" Radial Bighorns and had to put in 10psi in the tires to keep the bike from vibrating profusely over 40mph (tire says 35psi max).  I did not understand why it does that since I have run the 25" Radial Bighorns on my Rincon over 60mph at 3.5psi and never had any vibration what-so-ever.  I will start lowering my tire pressure slowly until the vibration starts and leave it there.  With a lower tire pressure the ride is always smoother (just harder wear on the tires).  I will see if it helps.

That would surely give a rougher ride but doesn't explain: "If the left front tire rolls over a shoe box sized rock the other 3 wheels should stay on the ground, but instead the front and left rear wheels can come off the ground"

The vibrating might be cured by balancing the front tires. I am going to have my 27" XTRs balanced because of a little steering twitch at high speed

BTW I used to run about 4.5-5psi in my Boghorns

Oh yeah that 35 psi max is for seating the bead only

Mines the camo #50 and I have the same shocks.About those tires and the pressure. You might wanna take em to a tire shop and see if they can balance them. Even if they have to use the old bubble method and stick on weights. It might help em to not vibrate

My 27'' Bighorns are not balanced and are very smooth all the way up.  I run 4.5 - 5 psi in 'em.

How do you know the production number?  Is its the last digits, then mine is # 159.
