I dropped my Outlander 800 Max off at Utah Sport Cycle last week so they could make skids to sell.  They finished the Skids today.   I get the first set for free :dan:

Here are the pictures of the Ricochet Skid plates

Don (the owner) is planning to take a set to Access Motorsports and install them on a regular 800 and measure the difference in the tail peice.
Bookmark this link Utah SportsCycle and look for Ricochet skid plates for your Outlander 800, coming soon.

Outlandish and LaMigraTx, please feel free to use these pictures on your websites as you see fit.

:aniwh:

Very, very nice Kevin you are definately good to go now. I will be sure to promote these skids. These are the best aluminum skids to date without a doubt, if anyone is interested in aluminum skids this is the way to go.

I ll be sure to post some of those pics. Pretty nice, huh, Outlandish:thm:

Looks very good to me!! Wonder what the price will be?  OR if they will tweak this skid some before the full release.  I like what I see!!!!!!!

Only place I can see a potential problem is where the footwell plate meets the frame skid....at least from this pic it looks like it could get snagged on stuff..........could just be the pic too

Yeah, that footboard section is the tricky part. I am having the same issue with my design, and I can't curve it up either given the brackets. I ll see what happens.

WOW!  They look great!  Congratulations on the free set and thanks for loaning them your ride.  I have a MAX also and will be ordering a set soon.   :clp:

Is there any chance the front brake rotors will hit the A-arm guards when the front suspension is fully compressed (bottomed out)?  Bombardier chose to have the stationary frame skid to cover them instead of the A-arm guards.  I wonder if for that reason?  The brake rotor sticks out into the A-arm quite a bit.  Link to picture of Bomb skids and A-arm protectors- http://i.pbase.com/v3/53/434553/2/51822182.DSC_2076b.jpg

Also, the front piece of the frame skid should be about 3/4" longer and broke to lap over the floorboard plate to avoid  forward snags (unless it really isn't as bad as it looks in the view from the front).

I would also like to see a little more drainage to the A-arm guards (like  the Bomb ones).

Maybe the reinforcement plate welded on could be just a little wider to distribute the force of an impact more to the sides of the rectangular tube of the frame where the strength is stronger lessening the chance of denting.

I'm not criticizing them, because they are WAY better than anything else available and I will order a set regardless.  They look like they will add a little strength to the front of the frame and great skid protection everywhere too.

Great job Utah Sportscycle!!!   :thm:  :urok:

Kevin Z .....Thanks for giving up your brand new wheeler for the fitting and development of these skids. Pretty righteous of you considering you barely had time to ride it at all beforehand:urok:

I understand the skid plates will be in the 300 dollar range.  When I picked up my Machine Friday, they were cutting plates on the CNC machine, and a Technician was discussing the bends with Don.  So, they are in production NOW!  Who knows how long it will take to get them out the door.

The extra bash plate, looks narrow, but it is 4 inches wide, as wide as the frame.  If it were any wider, there would not be anything to weld it to.

I agree, there is a lip between the front plate and the center plate.  The front is bolted through the frame, and the center is bolted to the foot support framing.  The center does not sit tight against the frame like the front and center.  I am contemplating bolting the center skid directly to the frame.  This will force the plates to line up better.  But, at this point I am leaning toward no more holes in the frame.  We will see how they hold up.

Yes, there are holes in the frame.  Two.  The front plate and rear plate each get one through the frame.  You can see the bolts at the end of each peice toward the center.

They had four guys standing on the machine, bottomed out the front end, and the brake disks did not the skids.  I had the same concern.

On our ride, today, I managed to bottom out the front end going through a wash a little too fast.  The nose hit a rock pretty hard.  I will get a pic of it as soon as I thaw out.  It was cold, cold, cold.   The angle of the nose plate, helped it "ricochet" (aren't I funny) off the rocks. It took a good ding, not bent at all, only cosmetic

Oh, and they go easy on the drain holes so they don't snag on everything.

Im looking at that center section and I have a question. on the boards here is a thread about adding a yamaha drain plug to the bottom of the belt cover. Im not seeing any way to get to it from under the bike is that something that needs to be added now or should it wait and be requested???

Don and I talked about the Bomb drain and the Add on Yamaha drain plug.

Even if you have a hole, you can't get a wrench on the Bomb drain. (the bottom bolt on the cover).  And if you add a Yamaha plug, you can drill a hole in the skids

He said it's not that hard to punch a hole in the skids anywhere you need to.

He said it's not that hard to punch a hole in the skids anywhere you need to.It would need to be a decent size hole to get your fingers or a pliers in but I think with a metal cutting holesaw you could make the hole as big as you like

I have the Yamaha drain plug, and when I built my skids I just added the extra hole, and use a pair of needle nose pliers to pull it out.

Just as with any skid plate holes can be added, and I don't see it a problem with Kevin's skids.

:ot: Ah, thank you Outlandish I just noticed my new found button "Delete", thank you. Now I can moderate myself.

One other thing on the skids and holes. I was thinking of another hole that my be needed, and that was for the gear box oil drain. However, the best way to access that is by removing that side's footboards, so a drain is not neccassary. Other, that that is the only drain holes I can think of.

Even if you did make a hole for the Gear box drain, it would be impossible to get to with a wrench and the fluid would go all over the inside of the skids.
The engine oil drain is the only one that points straight down.
