Went for a ride on my 800 Canam and went to take a break.  Turned off the key

and the motor died, but the starter motor kept turning over.:omg:  Turned the key back on and the motor started right up.  Tried again with the emergency cut-off switch and the exact same thing.  Turned it back on, motor started up, and I hi-tailed it back to

the camp sight. :ban: When I got back to camp, tried to turn off, and same as above.  Disconnected the battery and it quit cranking over.  Hooked the battery back up, turned on the key and tried to start.  Bike just makes clicking noise at the solenoid.

Bought a new solenoid, but does the same thing.  Bought new starter and need some advice, pictures, assistance on what's the best way to get to, remove, and install the new starter.  Thanks in advance for your help!  :)

:wel: to AWF. I don't have any pics of the starter handy but if that doesn't fix it check out the start button as well.

Starter should not spin if current is not being sent to it. Prob is most likely the switch as youve changed solenoid. That or a short in the wiring.

UPDATE........Well after 2 hours and my wife's assistance, I finally got the new starter installed.  Guess What?  Everything works again.....YEAH!  Bottom Line,  The solonoid went bad causing the starter to fry.  New solonoid and new starter = riding time again.  Anyone that has to replace your starter better be ready for some serious PATIENCE.  You have to literally stand on your head, pray to the 4-wheeling gods, light candles, align all the planets and stars, and that's just to get the starter out....ha! ha!  Wait until you try to reinstall it.  Thanks to everyone for your assistance :)

ronstermonster Thanks for the "heads-up" on the starter install, it's definetly tucked in there.

:wel:ronstermonster to the best atv forum going.

Thanks for the info.  I know the feeling, it's just better when you figger it out and do it yourself isn't it?

(course you'll never be able to attempt anything again without the wifester asking if you can do it all by yourself :tg:)

Good job, welcome again.

any tips for replacing the starter?  my buddy's renegade has a shot starter and if the dealer won't cover it, i know he's going to ask me to replace it.

nevermind.  i got it cleaned, pulled, tested, and reinstalled in about an hour.  turned out that wasn't the problem, but i learned how to change it if i ever need to again :ban:  i can definitely see where having two people, one with little hands, would be very beneficial.
