I have to say that this is one of the best places that I have been riding so far. The riding conditions vary from hard-pack trails, rock crawling, mud pits, to water crossings. Basically any kind of riding you are looking for you can find here, even high speed gravel roads.

The traffic is two way, so stay alert at all times. All of the people at the park that I encountered were fairly nice except for the Park Rent-a-cop who had a serious case of the little @#$% syndrome. Take the time to try this place out, and you will not be disappointed. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask them.

Their site is: http://www.coalcreekohv.com/

Here are some pics of our trip (most of these are mud pics cause thats what we like the most):

Windrock has some good trails. They are getting strict about a few things. There is no spinning, speeding, wheelies in the parking lot. I can understand that because I have seen a few fights start because some idiot on a 4 wheeler was spinning around and some of the rocks hit a couple of trucks. Once you are out of the parking lot and on the trails I have never seen anyone being stopped for speeding. They are now also having "road blocks" on the trails to check for permits and to check for beer. You can camp for free at the trailhead. (No elect or bathrooms) There are two campgrounds you can stay at that have all the hookups and you can ride from there to the trails, if you ride at a reasonable speed. You don't have to wear a helmet if you don't want to. You can ride double as long as both people have a permit. They just issued another rule, no night riding.

Well crap somebody must have died or something.  That sucks cause the night riding was one of the fun parts.  Guess I will just start going back up to Pinnacle Creek in WV then, they have no rules about anything:lololol:

No Night riding rule was due to insurance purposes. It is NOT enforced according to the Windrock Club president, Red. They just got tired of rescuing idiots in the middle of the night!

Link to a new RV park, you can ride to the trails:

Can anyone give me details about Windrock including motels etc. Can you ride from motels to the trails? Permits needed? Easy trails? Moderate trails?

We have a group of at least 4 trying to plan an early spring trip from Minnesota. We are trying to decide between there and Hatfield/McCoy

Yessireebub! First of all, no you cannot access trails from motels BUT depending when you come you can make reservations at Indian Creek RV Resort where you can access trails from their site. They have a renovated barn that has several rooms/apts available plus secure area to store your ATV's and a place to wash your ATV too! Reservations well in advance recommended!

Hundreds of miles of trails are as treacherous or easy as you want, pretty well marked. You do need permits. You can see places to get permits at the ICRV site or at the sites listed below. Permits are $15/day to $80 for the year.

See Motel info here.

http://indiancreekrvresort.com/links.html

I can even go you one better...I'd be happy to give you the guided tour of Windrock trails! I have a friend that has trailer at the RV park and I'm sure he and/or myself would be happy to show you around. I personally think that is the best way to see Windrock sights, with a guide. Post at the ICRV site when you plan on coming and we'll get you situated. I'd really like to meet you guys anyway!

There also is the Spring Jamboree, April 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 if you wanna see several thousand ATVers at once. It's a GREAT event for a good cause put on by the Windrock ATV Club.

http://www.windrockatv.com/

You can get a ton of info from the Windrock site.

No problem. Depending on time constraints A guy could Ride Windrock then an hour north to Brimstone, then another hour to Royal Blue and another to Evarts to ride with the Harlan Co. RidgeRunners then Hatfield McCoy.... :)

Some day these should all be hooked up....They are already for the most part, someone just needs to put a nice bow on it!:ban:

I will be there during most of those days. If you want someone to show you around some just let me know. I ride there at least every weekend starting in September and ending the last of May and have for the last couple of years so I know most of the trails pretty good.

What kind of trails are you looking for, moderate, difficult? Also, how many miles do you want to ride per day?

The  group I will be down there with like more easy going trails. Depending on conditions, 50-80 miles a day is good.
