I have not field tested this thing yet so I can only comment on the initial quality and installation.

So far, like everything else I have bought from Can-am I am impressed with the design and quality.  The quick release system is a sweet design and a must have in my opinion.  The trunk fits the quad in size and style perfectly.  The top door is sealed so rain should not be an issue.  The quick release can be locked as well as the door latch.  The latch is my only complaint.  The top part of the latch that attaches to the door is plastic and I think it might break after a short while (will have to wait and see).  It was time consuming to install but I think it was worth it for the quick release feature.  And in the bottom piucture you can see how they integrated pads into the sides so that your passenger will be comfortable if their arm leans on or comes in contact with the box.  Let me know if you have any other questions or need more pics.

It seems it hangs of the back alot. Is this the way it is suppose to be? I have been thinking of getting one myself.

On a Max, it fits right up against the passenger backrest.

Yes it fits pretty clost to the backrest.  It does hang off a bit but I do not think it looks bad, at least if you have the rear bumper.  It looks better in person.

Looks very nice:dan:

But I was able to salvage my old trunk from my prevoius Traxter and use it on our Outty Max, other wise I was going to go out and buy one of these.

Yeah my Wife says the same thing, even when I am sitting back there, it holds you in place very nicely.

My family (In Laws) and I have 6 Outtys, and we got the BRP quick release big trunks for all of them. Not one has held up more than 50hrs, and 3 of the machines are lady driven. The quick release system is handy, but fragile, and ends up rattling loose. The latches for the lids are also very flimsy, and the rivets have popped off 3 of our trunks. They need a tie down from the hitch area to the front bar on back rack to keep everything safe. That is why mine stays in the garage. There should be a divider system in the trunks as well. I end up packing 3 peoples gear into one trunk so that stuff doesn't smash around. We have had 2 of the trunks bounce right off the back and get run over. The stealership installed them all, and I have used pins, lock tight, rubber, foam and everything else to make these things work like they are supposed to, but they are just a lousy design.

Sorry for the long rant, but 6 trunks w/ the release hardware was fairly pricey, and I won't even use mine.

After using mine for awhile, I do agree that the lid latch is junk, a truly horrible design.  Mine is holding up, barely, but the fact that I have to have the key to lock/unlock it everytime I need to access it just sucks.  It should stay closed without being locked, but doesn't and it is just a matter of time before the latch part on the lid breaks off.

I put eyebolts in place of the bolts in ordder to tie things down internally.  It works well.

Big Ern, thanks for the post, it reminded me to update my review of this product.

well. I have about 15 hrs on with my BRP box. so I will add some comments.

firstly... falling off. yup mine fell off. in the first hour. I was the installer, so I can;t blame the dealer, so I blame the product. :)

I fixed it though. I went to home depot and bought some longer bolts, some conduit clamps. (they look almost idenitcal to the clamps that came with the box for securing it to the rear rack, just WAY stronger.) and I used washers, lock washers, nuts and locktight to secure it in place with the new conduit clamps. So far it has not come loose. (good sign)

I have not had an issue with the latch at all. so I hope I won't I do agree that it would be nice if there were some compartements in the box. but I am not really a light packer. so I just fill it up. by the time I put 2 sets of rain gear (its a max so I pack for 2) 2 sweaters. 2 lunches, my surviaval kit, my wratchet set, misc tools, hatchet, bush saw, bear bangers, air compressor, tire iron, bear sprey, wool blanket, tarp, 2 knives, 2 flashlights, wrench set, screwdriver set, 3 allen key sets.. ok you get the point.
It actually holds A LOT!

it is secure and nothing moves around when it is full. I can only imagine the racket it would make if I just threw my wratchet set in and closed the lid. it would not be pretty i'm sure.

I think it is a nice design and really looks sharp on the quad compared to other designs. it really suits the quad well.

1statv - IT REALLY LOOKS ROCKIN on your LTD it would look even better with some silver accents on it like the bike has on the seat!

Big Ern, thanks for the heads up on the latches, I will watch for that on mine.. I don;t understand when you say.. the rivits on yours have come out.. mine has no rivits. unless that is part of the "quick release?"

sorry you've had bad luck with them, lets hope me and 1statv don't have similar issues.

I like the idea of eybolts internally.. might add that to mine. thanks for the tip!

mattinthehat, good comments.  I like your idea, some day when I'm bored I might just have to try painting a silver accent on it :)

yea totally! man looking at thouse pics make me wish I had sprung for the 800ltd.. :) that color scheme and everything just look awesome.

of course I originally was going to buy the outty 400 (entry level quad seemed appropriate for my first one) .. then my wife said get a max so we can both ride, so I figured ok.. 400 max.. then I thought.. well 2 people needs more power than 1, so I thought ok 500 max.. then it was only another grand or so to get the 650 max.. with better suspension... I had to draw the line somewhere I guess lol. otherwise that would have been the biggest upsell in history :)

I was talking about the lstch where the key goes in. The lid latch. The top is riveted to the top lid, and the bottom to the base. They have popped off on both for us. Overpacking, and forcing it closed and relying on that latch to keep it closed did not help at all. I have a few Kenworth hood latch systems that I am going to use. A strong rubber latch with real bolts/washers. I also like the idea of eye bolts on the inside for bungie cords and straps. MUDINTHEHAT, biggest upsell in history, is me going to the dealership with my rich brother in law, to get 2 650 outty max, and leaving with 4 Outty 650xt's, and 2 800xt's. That salesman probably took his family to travel Europe on the commision.

Thanks for the compliments - yeah, the color is definitely part of what sold me on it - the GPS part of it for me was a big waste of money though, can't hardly figure the thing out :)

That's funny.  Yeah, I am notorious for upselling myself, I am a commisin salesman's wetdream

Yeah, that latch is a joke, truly poor thinking on their part.  I love the latch on my Tamarack front box, I wish it was like that.

Using a Kenworth 18 wheeler hood latch???!!!  Now that's what I 'm talking about!! :thm:

interesting.. i'll have to look at my box more closely. I don;t see any rivits on the latch. mine appears to be screwed to the box.  could be a design change.. could be better.. or might be even worse who knows ... :(

I have to admit... poor partnering on BRP's part to go with that gps unit.  I use the Garmin Rino 530 gps for atving and it is an awesome GPS designed for wilderness treking not for street use.  the garmin that comes with the Ltd is a street navigator.. almost useless for offroading.  bad pair-up if you ask me.  too bad too cause Garmin makes good products when you buy the one that is actually suited to your application.

you should seel the GPS on ebay. I see people posting requests for it all the time.. a lot of people don;t realize it is not a trail gps. they want to buy it for their outlanders and make it look stock by buying the ltd mounts. you could probably get $150 or more for it and put it towards a good one like a Rino series or a garmin GPS 60c, or a Garmin Colerado.
