First off I want to say a big THANK YOU to ATV Outfitters. The installation went very smoothly, taking only 2.5 hours from start to finish. The trickiest part was figuring out how to get the machine up on end. I didn't have anyone available to help me, so I ran the quad up onto a pair of ramps and then used my leg and back muscles to get it the rest of the way up. The non-Max versions should be a bit easier to lift up due to less leverage/more incline. Be sure you tie off the ATV once you get it up to prevent serious injury or death should it happen to fall down on top of you. I really only have one note to make about the installation process. There are two holes that need to be drilled through the spar frame. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE BOLTS YOU PUT THROUGH THE FRAME! The box frame channel is very easy to collapse with these two bolts. Just snug them up and call it good. Thanks, again, ATV Outfitters! That looks great! Is the hardware easy to attach and are the bolt holes counter sunk?

The hardware is all extremely easy to attach. All bolt holes line up perfectly. The holes are not countersunk, but all exposed bolts have rounded allen-type heads, so hanging them up on rocks shouldn't really be an issue. --Shawn

Looks very good! When drilling into the spar frame did you drill leaving the skids on the machine or did you mark the spot, remove the skids, then drill. 2006 Outlander 800 EFI Yellow 2005 Polaris Sportsman 700 EFI - Sold

I drilled with the skids on the frame. The instructions state to do it this way and I can't see any reason not to. --Shawn

great post and great pic's but like muddbelly i would like to know if anyone has installed them without drilling the frame.i'm thinking of trying some type of bracket along the curved up edges.anyone have any other thoughts? i would just bolt them together but i would have to space them down to clear the nuts on the bolts.

Got mine today. I to am trying to think of a different way to bolt on without drilling frame. May have to go to hardware store and look for parts.

I spoke with Don at Utah Cycle concerning the mounting of the skids specifically the drilling of the two holes into the spar frame. He told me that they racked their brains trying to come up different ways to mount the skids even making several different types of mounting brackets. Ultimately, he didn't like any of them and decided to drill two small holes (11/32) to simplify the install and to give them a clean look. He also stated that the two holes that have to be drilled would not affect the integrity of the spar frame. I also had my reservations about drilling until I spoke with him, not to mention my BRP plate install (talk about a pain in the butt to mount). If you have any questions give him a call he's a super nice guy. Happy Holidays Everyone!! 2006 Outlander 800 H.O. I had the same concerns when installing the Perfex skids on my 400 Max.I contacted Bomber Tech over at the Frontier and he assured me it would not compromise the frame integrity,he has installed a lot of them for his customers with no problems. What I did was use fender washers on top where the nut goes to spread the load when tightening the bolt and nut.I intend to do the same on the 800 skids.

are you guy's using anything to seal the hole against water or rusting? don't know if i should be concerned but just a thought. i get paranoid about these thing's. i just don't know if water will puddle inside the frame.i will take a closer look tomorrow.

It would leak water unless you used som type of sealant. More reason to find another way to mount without drilling!

There is two openings in the spar frame underneath the hitch for water to run out of. So water and moisture in the frame should not be a problem. As far as rust is concerned I was thinking of using white lithium grease . 2006 Outlander 800 H.O. EFI - Yellow Ricochet Skids & A-Arm Guards 2005 Polaris Sportsman 700 EFI - Sold

yea i was just looking at it and saw the two holes for water to escape. i guess if drilling is the only way i will just use some rustolium stop rust after drilling the holes for the drilled edges.maby some roofing membrane to keep them dry with over sized ss washers.im also contemplating two strips of aluminum on the topside and just riveting the plates together. if you needed to separate them you can just drill out the rivet's. well i decided to go with the riveting method. went to depot and got a 3/4 by 1/8 strip of aluminum cut it into 5" pieces and got some 3/16 ths aluminum rivets med size.put 3 strips at each end of the center plate 4 rivets per strip.so far so good. i also put foam strip along the frame like brp does but wider. to stop any possible rattles or rubbing.i know it will be harder to remove but i drilled a rivet to test it and it was a piece of cake. i just hope it stays up after a hard hit, in which case i can still drill the frame if need be.

I was thinking of of makeing 2 c shape brackets ( [ ) and bolt them on each side of the plate by clamping it around the frame. The foam sounds likea good idea, i think i will look for some rubber stripping after the holidays.
