I live in a remote village on Kodiak Island and pack a S&W .460 with 360 grain hard cast bullets. I also carry it when wood cutting, fishing etc. I carry it in a holster that fits under my pack and can reach it easily with my right hand. It is out of the way there. I'm fairly new to the area. Most of the locals carry .44 mags or shotguns with a combination of "cracker shells" and slugs.
Lower 48 requirements have more 2 legged predators to be concerned with in which case I would pack my Glock M-22 .40S&W.

On the wheeler, usually have the mini 14 with folding stock, fits in the bag, or my custom 10/22 target.

For bears up north, can't beat the balistics on a Dan Wesson .445.  This gun is awsome and has major "put down" power.

MY CHOICE OF WEAPONS IS:

For every day riding and not in Bear country I carry a GLOCK 27 in .40 Cal with the 15 round extended Mag and the Mag grip so the grip is like a full sized GLOCK. Also my MP5 in 9mm. I paid the $200 tax and bought it years ago when I had a FFL and I bought it used, it was almost new.

I carry the GLOCK in a ACTIVE PROGEAR Jogging Holster that sits on the front of my chest for easy access, plus it is a wallet as well. When I go into town no one knows I have a Gun inside. Go to WWW. activeprogear.com

I tried a few others but this one is the best I've found. I mounted a FORBUS hard Holster inside to keep the weapon from banging around in rough terrain.

For the HIGH COUNTRY I've got a Spring Field SOCOM II in .308 with a EOTEC sight & a Laser.

I am a Retired Police Detective and I've only pulled my weapon once while riding my ATV. We had a bad encounter with a bunch of red necks who had been drinking on the Trail and & one pulled a 8 inch knife and asked if I had any $$$ I said sure and pulled out my GLOCK and he dropped the knife. We quickly left the area and I called the Sheriff's Office & they got busted for DUI when they were stopped on the highway and a number of other charges for drugs and some had outstanding warrents.

Here is one of the M16 pistols I carry. Why carry a pistol when you can carry both! glwbear
