Here in WI when the lakes are frozen there are clubs that put on ice races for cars every weekend for a 2 month period. The courses are set up like a road racing course with pylons marking a one mile long course. Speeds of the fastest cars are about 65-70 on the longest straightaway. There is a class for modifieds, with studded tires, which are illegal on the roads. Teams bring up EVOS and WRXs on trailers from as far as Chicago prepared with special studded rally tires. These cars are maxed out to the hilt with 350-400hp and AWD and darn good drivers with unpronouncable Swedish sounding names that can barely speak English. I'm pretty sure an ATV could run with this class and be competitive. After I confirm I can run I'm going to stud up the tires with screw-in carbide studs, fronts about a 100 studs each and rears 200 each. I believe an 800 could make the grade. It has a lot of advantages in turning radius and driver's visibility and use of body english. Clothing would have to the same as a snowmobile with double visored full face helmets, heated grips, windshield, and a snowmobile suit with heated vest. When the time comes I'll post how it turned out..
