Ran across a super neat shallow water aluminum fishing, exploring and duck hunting boat. Many different models to 18'. Virtually bullet proof. Interesting reading too.

Hope I don't start thinking about selling Max now that it's done.

Know how you feel.  Damn shallow water is everywhere nowadays, even in the my old Lake Michigan fishing grounds. That's why I sold my 21" center console /150hp. Too many hidden rocks where they're not marked on the chart.

A 35hp Mud Buddy on that tunnel hull 18' footer would go a lot of places nobody else can go for duck huntin and bass fishing. We got flowages and swamps in northern WI that I doubt anyone has ever gone.

If a person could locate 2 or 3 guys to jointly buy a boat it would be perfect.  No one person ever uses a boat a much as it could be used. Maybe $3500 each outright, or finance and it would be like $45 (3) or $65 a month (2).   :):):)

Did some rough figuring. $10,000 fully equipped (discounted, no trade) for 8 years (can go as high as 10 yrs on boats) it's $130 a month, total. With 10% down.

I just e-mailed the company to get an approx. price on a 17x60 /w 45hp, center console steering, Rhino lining interior in Camo, bow spotlights, tunnel hull and high transom, .125 bottom & SS skeg guard..  Shouldn't weigh over 900 lbs. EZ tow for Subaru turbo or Cherokee.  :tg:

Checking if there's a dealer closer to WI. 8yrs financing at 7% about $120 month.  Heck, I'll be dead and buried by then.

cannot float. After three years product development it is changed forever. The Amphibear kit gives you never seen safety on ice and extended reach for crossing small water obstacles

If you run through the options on the site, also Gator Trax boats, there are different color camos available. One had a camo pattern with a Rhino bumpy finish. Hope to know more soon. I think there's a scarcity of motors, especially the 45 hp hydo drive and the SS headers and expansion chamber.

I also want the higher sides option and pointed bow for crossing open bays on windy days. On those kind of days you can virtually see the bottom between the waves.

Here is a picture of my boat. Well I got it off their website, but this is the boat that I have. I have a much smaller motor also.

Turbo, the boat is 15X42, weighs 210 pounds and will take a 25hp. Short transom only in this one. They also make a 16X60 that weighs 525 pounds, takes up to a 40hp and has the long transom. I opted for the 15 since it weighs alot less and I don't hunt big water too often. They both have lockable gun storage and are pre-wired for lights, trolling motor, bilge pump and all that fun stuff. I really like the idea of the rhino lining in camo on those that you showed, but it wasn't an option from alumacraft.

So you went with AlumaCraft. Good boat. Been trying to get Gator Trak on the phone with no luck.  I'm still looking for a tunnel hull and Hydr-drive in a 35hp (with SS manifold 42 hp). Tunnel boat can run in 1.5" of water, mud, grass, scum, etc. with a short stem Hydra-Drive.

Amazing how many tunnel boats there are when you search the internet. Most of them are Flats boats or spotted trout boats.

Can't figure out if Gator Trak and Mud Runner are the same company. Will know more soon.  Even got the little woman interested. I'll keep you posted.   Jim

Ordered today a SeaArk 1652SLD and a ProDrive X36 with all accessories. Prodrive is the only surface drive that you can reverse the lower unit direction and get full power in reverse, actually lifting the stern and blowing out the mud. They say you can plane a boat in reverse (wheelie?).

Didn't like launching or docking the Mud Buddy or Red Devil without reverse. Could be a nightmare on a windy, choppy day. Boat was about $7500 and motor $6245. Boat Navy grey and motor in camo.  Total everything $14,000.

Supposed to do 30+mph in 2" of water or mud. Dealer will test it with me in his adjacent lake. Delivery around April 1st.

SeaArk builds boats for Special Forces (river patrol boats and for Coast Guard). Strongest boat on the market. .125 treadplate upper and lower decks all sprayed and sealed at the edges with rhino type lining with draining to the scuppers.

Can't hardly wait. ATV for weekend group riding and boat for fishing during the week, hopefully with wife along.

Cancel the mud boat. Since most of my fishing will be in Lake Michigan and larger lakes, no swamps, and duck hunting (shooting) on Lake Michigan, I ordered a Polar Kraft 186T in camo with 60hp Mercury & 8hp kicker, both 4 strokers.

L. Michigan is crawling with 25# kings, 35# lakers. 25# brown trout and 15-20# steelhead. Often it took 2 men to lift the cooler to the fish cleaning station.

Boats all flat floor, hose-out-able vinyl camo floor and interior, storage boxes along both sides with toe rails underneath and tiller steering. 18'6" long, 92 " beam, 1100# hull weight.

Plan to use it also for open water duck hunting on L. Michigan for diver ducks. I just tie a string of magnum bluebill decoys in a string and anchor them 50 feet downwind the boat. And anchor the boat and tie the end of the rope to a floating cushion so I can untie it to retrieve ducks. Haven't gone for 20 years. There's more ducks now then there was then. Fastest shooting I've ever had. Lots of Bufflehead (Butterballs)and hooded Mergansers but I don't fire at them.

If I make it out of the hospital on tuesday and avoid another bypass nightmare (God willing) it's gangbuster this year. Fishing during the week (weather & wind permitting) and ATVing on weekends.
