I used to be on a team shooting indoor archery leagues. The range closed and there were no outdoor 3-D ranges so I kinda hung up the sport but lately have been thinking about getting back into it......I was pretty good at it with consistant scores in the 290's...never did shoot a 300 though:cry:

Anyone else shoot bow?

I shot in a 3D league at Shafer's in burnsville (I think) it was about 4 years ago, I had a real good time but didn't like the drive. I just used my parker that I use for hunting and had a blast, if I found one close I think I would do it again otherwise there is a nice range about 5 miles from home.

I have never shot competition, but have been an avid bow hunter for about 14 years now. I have had a Mathews Q2 XL for 3 years now and love it. I had a PSE prior and it is night and day comparison. The price is really night and day also. I haven't shot any of the new bows that came out this year, but there are some that are giving Mathews a run now.

style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #00b0b0"I wish that there were some ranges that were closer. Chalstrom's just outside of Duluth has a really nice range and there is one in Superior too, but that is just too far to drive to shoot all the time. I have just been shooting at my block target at home lately.

I just started hunting last year with a bow. I was lucky enough to bag a 4x4 muley and now I'm hooked. I really enjoy target shooting. I find that learning to judge the yardage is the challenging part of it. I picked up a used Bear compond bow but have shot some of the newer bows and really like the speed and easier holdback. Have to convince the boss I need a new one though.

OH yeh I have shot a lot of target archery over the years.

Took it very serious in tournaments and practice. The wife and I would shoot 1-3 tournaments a weekend if they were close enough.

I have shot a number of 300- 60X games indoors and on a 900 round (40,50,60 yards) I shoot in the 890's .

Field rounds are really fun to shoot too but they take so long to shoot at the tournament level so I don't shoot them anymore BUT the International round is a very fun game to shoot ...20 yards and then every 5 yards out to 65 yards

I use a Mathews Rival Pro

There is nothing better than shooting a 900 round, I used to shoot one every day at my house from spring to fall its just a blast for me to see if I could shoot a perfect round at each yardage. I have never cleaned a 900 round but have shot several perfect scores at each yardage ( 300 @ 60  300 @ 50 and a 300 @ 40)

My wife can shoot very well ( great coach ) as she can shoot 300- 53X ( her high score ) and averages 300- 45X indoors. And she shoots a PSE Millenium.

Who else shoots target archery?

Its been so long I can't remember what my bow was. I know it was a Hoyt target bow and either a Medallion or Medalist, torquoise riser w/ white limbs. It did have an Easton stabilizer and Toxonics sights. Never tried a scope but some guys were using them then. For hunting I had a PSE Fireflite and an old Golden Eagle as back up. I guess it's been about 13 years since I've even held a bow.....

The new mathews might work, it has real short axle to axle, but pretty spendy.

Depending on your laws in your state a cross bow would be perfect, I don't think it's legal here in Minnesota to shoot while on an atv.

Can't use a crossbow in MN for hunting at all unless you have a special disability permit. They do have some permits that allow you to shoot from the vehicle, but I'm not sure on the regulations on those at all.

OSO, are you looking for a shorter bow then? Norsepeak may be talking about the matthews switchback.

Yeah, I think the new Mathews Switchback XL is like 36 or 34" axle to axle.  Something like that I think.

In the 80's I shot with the Grand Rapids (MN) archers.  I got to where I was shooting 300's but the best I could do in the X count was 58-59.  I usually choked up on the first arrow of the last end.  Since I moved away in 88 I haven't shot competition.

I've got a Switchback(last years), it's 33" Ax-Ax.  The new XTs are 30.  I could easily take a shot from my Outty.  I might have to as the area around my stand is flooded.  I don't think there's any law agains shooting from an atv on private property.  key word(think).  Haven't shot indoors in a long time.  Not comp, just tune in stuff.  I've got a mini 3D range in the back yard.LOL.  wife hates it.  had to take the tree stand out of the tree next to the garage because she said it was too red-neck.:)
