I am buying a new shotgun and I got it narrowed down to a Remington 1100 G3 20 gauge. Anyone on here have one? Or have any opinions on it? Thanks

In 20 they might be a little ammo finicky. I have a Rem 20 gauge pump, it never fails to fire. :2cent:

I read on another forum that it doesn't eject well with light loads, but that was with a wet chamber which remington doesnt recommend...my old man swears by this auto.:2cent: And says it is worth the extra bucks. I was leaning towards a pump...just for the action...pumps look cool!:tg:

do you have the wingmaster?

Don't shoot light loads then. :) J/K

They are "tuneable" for the loads, I believe. Crap, it's been awhile since I've had one apart, can't remember.

Wingmaster it is, with a couple different stocks depending on what it will be doing. Plus a couple barrell choices also. I like pumps just as fast as a semi, IMO

The Mossberg's are good too!

They  come with 4 choke tubes and a top of the line case...the realwood is walnut which is cool too! for just over 1000 bucks its a good all around semi I think, my first shot gun and prolly my last as remington makes the best one going for the price...so the gun forums say.

Ah, but does he have a new Perazzi?

Some of the older Tikkas' are real fine rifles.

A grand for the 1100 set is OK.  Try the feel of a Beneli super black eagle. :thumb2:

Actually there only 12, so the m2 is the 20 ga. click

Cant go wrong with the trusted old wingmster in 12 or 20. I have the 12 guage from my father. Had to put a new barrel on it as my brother shot steel shot thru the old barrel and wore it thin.
Good luck

Not to go off topic if this one is still going, sounds like it's decided, so I have a couple of questions for anybody (including chilty :))  Just ignore this til you've decided, looks like you have though.

I bought a shotgun, a ~$150 pump defender, four or five yrs ago for house protection, but there are no ranges I know of to shoot it, so guess I'm a shotgun virgin.  The sales guy said it was short to fit through the door at not much angle if in a hurry.
  • The salesman recommended #6 shot, saying larger shot would go through the walls and across the street.  ?? That's what is in it now.
  • I have some 'slugs' to put in it, as we have bears just about every night in the spring and fall crossing through the back.  Any info for me about slugs, bears?
  • I'm not real sure how to hold the thing to fire, I figured snug to the shoulder, cheek against the stock or no?
I've been in the service and fired most everything, but never a shotgun, and never a bear.  (I've also got a 50 cal S&W revolver if necessary for old Smoky, I do know how to fire that :), ~$4.00 a round, yip!)

One of our four shotguns is a 20 Mossberg pump...really light gun, so the recoil is terrible; I keep it very tight to my shoulder.

I should see if someone could fix the single shot 16 gauge Stevens we got; another light gun...that thing must really be painful to shoot.:omg:

MtnOuty if it's a BIG bear, the last thing you want to do is wound it, cause it might be the last thing you do. If you do have to shoot one, unload your weapons on it, there's no such thing as overkill. :2cent:

Slugs or sabots you'll want to lean into it a bit(stance wise).

Revicm I don't care for Camo either, but there shotguns work very well from what some friends say.

Even though you have that .500 SNW I would be more afraid of that shotgun if I were a criminal. That 6 shot will do plenty of damage to any 2 legged problems you have. As stated before lean into the slugs a little, I fire a shot gun with my cheek to the stock and both eyes open, pointing more than aiming.

Revicm You could save about $100 at gunbroker . IF you have a FFL that will accept it for a minimal fee.  Sometimes it's best just to buy at your local gun store, I know around here they NEED the business.(glad I got out when I did). :2cent:

I don't know if it would be worthwhile paying customs etc.

Forgot about that, sorry.

Without going to deep, just what are the gun-laws up there now.

Every gun has to be registered, Toronto has shut down shooting ranges. One was where a Olympic shooter practiced, they are getting anal around the 'big smoke' because of the hand gun crimes.

I do alot of skeet / trap / sporting clays shooting, I use Beretta 687's with 20 ga. tubes exclusively for Skeet and SC...I use a modified 12 ga. SKB for Trap, all very fine guns. All are O/U, I can't shoot a semi-auto, to much going on next to my cheek. Plus I'm a fat boy and picking up those hulls all day just wears me out...HeHe.

The guy I shoot skeet with has a Remington 1100, this gun will keep up with a 500 round day no problem, shooting 20 ga. skeet loads. The trick is to take a few minutes and clean up the action every 100 rounds or so, if the carbon buildup is removed, the action will work just fine.

Remington makes some fine guns, I have one right next to my bed...

The first shotgun I really bought for myself was an 1100 and I have had/sold a few thru the years, not any problems Except a shell extractor that was worn out on a Bi-Centennial Model.I replaced it with a Benelli Super Black Eagle-Lefty.Now theres a mouthful,I also have a S&W .500 but my neighbors horses FREAK out when I let er rip and the ammo prices WOW.But the hunting aspects of Med to lg game is what I bought it for.BTW I still have not went on a hunt yet with this monster.
