2 on ATV shot after a conversation BY AMBER HUNT MARTIN FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER August 25, 2005 Two people riding an all-terrain vehicle on Detroit's west side were gunned down Wednesday by a man in a tan Cadillac, police and witnesses said. A 25-year-old man was shot in the neck and chest and died; his 33-year-old passenger was shot in the back and abdomen as she fled. She was in critical condition at Sinai-Grace Hospital, said Detroit Police Officer Benard Beck-O'Steen. The shooting occurred at Keeler and West Parkway about 10 a.m. By Wednesday evening police had a potential suspect in custody. Police spokesman James Tate said it appears the couple were targeted but authorities don't know why. "It wasn't a robbery. Nothing was taken," Tate said. According to residents, the two were riding down Keeler when the Cadillac pulled alongside. The couple exchanged words with two men in the Cadillac, but it did not appear they were arguing, witnesses said. "They were just talking, no screaming, no yelling, no confrontation," said a 43-year-old Wixom man who was in the area visiting his father. He asked that his name not be published because the gunman could be still at large. The witness said the woman suddenly started screaming and ran. He said the Cadillac driver shot the man on the ATV once, then shot the woman twice in the back. "She slowly wilted down to the grass," the witness said. Then the gunman "emptied the clip into the guy, peppered him in the chest." After the Cadillac left, the Wixom man said he ran to check on the shot man, who gasped and then stopped breathing. About 10 neighbors rushed to help the woman, who was moaning on the ground. Tate asked that anyone who saw the Cadillac call the police at 313-596-2260 or Crime Stoppers at 800-773-2587. Now I'm not one to stereotype but.... do ya suppose there was some gang bangers in the car. I'm telling you the cops need to just shoot these clowns and quit wasting everyones time and money.
