ATV Park Debate Revving Up
Justin Ware
Roch Tranel drove his family of four a long way so they could spend some time camping and riding at an ATV park outside of Tigerton.
"About three and-a-half hour drive, about 45 minutes north of Chicago," said Tranel.

Out-of-state travelers like Tranel are a big part of the reason why people like Morris Krall want to build another park in the middle of Marathon County.

Krall says an ATV park outside of Stratford would bring in a lot of tourist dollars, plus it would give local ATV enthusiasts a quality riding area.

"I got a couple of grandkids. They need to have a place to play, too, and their kids want to have a place to play someday," said Krall.

Opponents of the park say the promise of lots of local and out-of-state ATV riders is exactly why they don't want a park.

Sandy Schneider is one of more than 100 people who live near the land where the park would go, who signed a petition against it.

Schneider says an influx of ATV riders would disrupt their otherwise calm and quiet lifestyles.

"It'd be the people coming to the park, so we'd have traffic day and night. It just isn't something we want," said Schneider.

Right now, Marathon County leaders say there are no plans in place for an ATV park.

Both those for and against the park say they plan on being at the next county meeting Thursday night, to make sure their voices are heard.

I've never been to an atv park but I can't see there being a huge amount of traffic day and night. At least not enough to ruin your lifestyle. I still think that some of these manufactures should buy some big chunks of land and turn them into atv parks with camping.:aniwh:

The park up here is somewhat close to town and the residents were all up in arms when they were building it. Now they are reaping the benefits of it. ATV'ers money!

Sound berms were built on the town side of the park and you cannot hear the activity from the park. All bikes have to comply with the dB limits and the park is closed after 9 (I think it's 9) at night. dB limits possibly may be lifted for special events though.

The city now has designated trails to and from the park into their town and to the business section.
