Associated Press
August 2, 2005 ATV0803

COOK, Minn. — An 11-year-old boy died from injuries he received in an all-terrain vehicle accident. Another boy was seriously injured.

The accident happened Monday evening near Lake Vermilion, about 10 miles northeast of Cook, according to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Department.

The two boys were riding the ATV at the time of the accident. Details were not immediately available and it was not clear which boy was driving.

The 11-year-old boy died at the Cook hospital. The other boy suffered serious injuries and was taken by helicopter to St. Luke's hospital in Duluth.

The accident was being investigated, sheriff's officials said.

According to my source there was a 15 year old driving. Neither had safety certificates or were wearing helmets and were riding down a county road.....

Where were mom and dad? Guys, I get about a dozen news reports everyday about kids killed on wheelers......and it's almost always the same story, no supervision!!!!.........

From Duluth News tribune

Sebastian Lee Bacon,  11, a passenger on the ATV, died in the Cook hospital. Driver Steven Carl Sellers, 15, also from Buyck, suffered serious injuries and was transferred to St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. His condition was unavailable Tuesday.

The sheriff's office said it appeared Sellers lost control, left the roadway and struck an embankment about 10 miles northeast of Cook. The incident was reported at 5:23 p.m. Monday.

The driver and passenger were thrown from the ATV into rocks. Neither victim was wearing a helmet.

i am fore removing any law that says we must ware helmets.... just do not like the goverment telling me what, when, where, and why i should do things.

with that said, i owe my life to the fact i allways ware helmets when riding a motorcycle mortrised trike or my quad, even while riding my bycicles (mt and roady),
some times i think i should even ware it while riding in my jeep,---- hard core rocker.

sorry to hear that someone died due to the fact they were not doing it right,

packnrat....I agree about the helmet laws BUT not when it comes to kids. They are far to reckless and fear free.
I biggest gripe though is with the parents not supervising these kids.

My 14 year old tried for an hour yesterday to get me to let him take the wheeler out to ride with his friends. I didn't make father of the year in his eyes but my son and the wheeler are in one peice today.

He knows my rules but tries to push it once in awhile. Sometimes I feel bad about not letting him go ride with his friends, but my better judgement tells me not too. He is a good rider but when with his buds I can see things changing quick. Kids have no fear and take too many risks to be unsupervised. :cents:
