Father indicted in son's ATV death
January 4, 2006

KEENE, N.H. --A man has been indicted on charges he endangered his 6-year-old son, who was killed in an all-terrain vehicle crash last fall.

Jarrad Morgan of Keene, 29, is accused of putting his son, Chandler, in danger by encouraging him to cross a highway, illegally, on an ATV at night without headlights. He is charged with reckless conduct, a misdemeanor.

The indictment indicates that prosecutors will seek a longer prison term for Morgan than a misdemeanor conviction normally allows.

Chandler Morgan was struck by two cars in October while crossing Route 12 in Keene. His father was riding with him, on another ATV.

Children younger than 12 cannot drive ATVs across roads, according to state law. They also must be accompanied by a licensed adult if they are driving on land not owned or leased by a parent, grandparent or guardian.

Court records say Morgan was given a warning by a New Hampshire Fish and Game officer six months before about not riding his ATV in that area of Route 12.

No ATV, regardless of driver age, is allowed to cross Route 12, according to Lt. John E. Whitmore, of the Fish and Game Department.

  I'm sitting here with my stomach turning wanting to reply and the only thing that keeps coming to my mind is:

F in A$$hole.  In a few years he would have learned not to trust you.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family.
