Interesting project! I bought an old ranger when I lived in SC, I think it was an 84 but the body and frame were in better shape than my michigan based 98 explorer.

I was going to put a stock 351w in it, just 4bbl with the exhaust split & headers, beat the trans tunnel out for a c4.  Dropped the project after I damaged the front end climbing a surprise tree that was crossing the road during a storm.

I want to put Hedman headers on it, but I'm not sure if they would fit between the front fenders. So, I might have to just run the 3-inch pipes from manifolds.

460 is a physically huge motor, make sure to take plenty of pics I can't wait to see it shoehorned in there.

You will most likely have to use fender well headers

these projects are usually endless money pits. I know

Folgers is this  going to be a beater type thing or a street/strip truck? It would be much easier to put a small block in there. You could stick some money in a 351 windsor and make that thing go pretty good or you can buy new 400+ horsepower 351 crate motors....I'm just thinking a 460 would be tough transplant because of the size......

why don't you put an outy 800 motor in your honda rancher that would be a whole lot eaiser than a 460 in a ranger.:2cent: Then you would have the fastest rancher in the world!!!:roflao::lololol:

Yup...and it has to be a big block.

Or, I could put a 460 in the Rancher.:ban:

Here's a quick sketch of how the truck might look when it's built:

I need to find a Ranger like this in MN; $280, and the body is in ok condition:

Ranger

:ot:That is the ugliest color for a Ranger...maybe Honda should make the "Big Red" UTV in that color. LOL

Update!!!:

Instead of building a Ranger with a 460, I am now going to put a 460 in a 1948 Ford F1 pickup:

Update!!!!

I'm going to look at an engine on Friday...1974 Ford 460 with C6 transmission for $400.

If it is in good shape, I will buy it, and then send it to a machine shop to have it bored to 514 Cu. in.

Once I get the thing bored, and after I rebuild it, then I can start looking for the 48' F1 stepside.

Last night, Sr. and I worked on the 460 for a couple hours...we took off the exhaust manifolds, the air conditioning, the power steering pump, the fan, and the alternator. All the bolts were covered in rust, and need to be replaced, but most of the parts/brackets can be reused.

We tried to take the water pump off today, and cracked it in half trying to pull it off of the gasket...so that needs to be replaced.

Everything else looks very solid, and the crank can be easily turned with a wrench.

This weekend, we will be putting the engine on an engine stand, after we take the C6 off.

Hopefully, we will have the heads off by early next week.:)
