I think i'm gonna get a new radar detector.Anyone know a good one that dont cost a fortune? Dont wanna spend too much on one incase it gets taken from me(kinda illegal here), but i dont want junk either.

Last I heard Valentine One was the one to get. I used to run a Cobra until a few years ago. Now I just speed. Most of the speeders here in MN. are getting clocked with a laser. Not much chance of detecting that so I just take my chances. As an experienced speeder (a little tongue-in-cheek humor) you will soon figure out where they like to hide and drive accordingly. Don't think I'd waste the money. Just practice safe speeding..........GOTT

good point i guess but i dont know how much they are into the lasers around here.In town i see them hiding behind lampoles, etc. and my 10-15 yr old detector doesn't pick them up, if that means anything. But on highways i pick up a fair bit.I read the Bel STi Driver  is the only undectable one but not cheap just like everything else i seem to want.

Best one I've ever had is a ESCORT X-50.  Has never failed me and can detect radar for miles on open road.  I stuck a round piece of fuzzy velcro on top of the dash in all three cars and transfer it back and forth for trips. Put a patch of the scractchy velco under the X-50.

When I park at a shopping center I twist it off the velcro and set it on the floor.

Since '56 and my first "Fuzzbuster" I must have gone through 15 units of all different brands.  Nothing compares to the X-50, but that's the latest technology.

i think im still leaning toward the undectable one(according to radarbusters) although i haven't seen one or even found a place around here to buy one yet.Could be the size of a brick for all i know, and i hate ordering off internet over the border.Too many "just because" fees show up weeks later. A-holes

I'm with GOTTOYS, I have never owned a radar detector, I have never gone the speed limit since I got my license and I've only been busted three times( knock on wood). If the cops are just using laser you're screwed, by the time your detector goes off he's already got your speed down. On the way to work the other week I could see the laser dot being shot at each car(it was still dark) including my own from the crafty cop sitting behind the bridge pillar where they always sit on that road. I don't trust the detectors, seems everytime I've been in a car with one it was going off over nothing, it made me more nervous than just using the 12 second rule and keeping my eyes peeled.:cents:

Not just staring out the front window. I usually am aware of what's going on in front of and around me about 12 seconds before I get there. Sometimes more if the road allows sometimes less.

I just call it the 12 second rule.:)

I've had a cobra for the last 10 years and have never been caught ..... when it was turned on.  Radar detectors work great here in Saskatchewan because it's so flat you can pick up the RC's from a long ways off!!!:ban:

i think they  take your detector and give you a ticket (guessing $300 ish, dunno).Speeding tickets give you 4 of your allowable 6 points and tickets are pricey- not good. Some provinces allow detectors, but N.S. is run by old idiots. We just got sunday shopping lately because of a court battle, and they're still crying about that

Holy crap, where do you live that they only allow you 6 points? Here in Ontario you are allowed 12 or 14. I got a warning once that if I got anymore I would have to go to the Justice of the Peace to state why I should be allowed to keep my licence. This was back when I was 17 and had 10 points or so. They are all gone now and I have not got a ticket for 3 years or so. Like someone said here, once you know where they sit, speed away.
