Being one of the misfortunates that miss-placed (lost) his ATV key in a very embarrassing situation.... I do the following. Get a marine floating key fob, the bigger the better, usually in yellow or florescent orange, and write your name and cell phone number with a waterproof pen. Put the ATV and spare truck ignition keys. trailer coupling key, and any tie down padlock keys on the float with a sturdy split ring. Any time you park your machine at a reststop or restaurant or gas station take the key with you. There are people in this world that resent others that have things that they can't afford or can't get insurance for. His type would enjoy nothing more then taking out your ignition key, and then standing back in the distance and watching with glee your frenzy searching your pockets for the key. I'm going to order a spare ATV key and duct tape it to a wall in the storage compartment, just in case. Doesn't do you any good if your spare key is 50 miles away in your pickup glove box. If anyone from BRP reads this forum I wish you would have incorporated in a push button keypad like some luxury cars have. It would be another industry first and others would follow.

One more thing. If you carry your ATV on a trailer (and who doesn't?) and you park overnight at a motel or park your rig out in the boonies all by itself while you ride, to prevent a one minute theft of your trailer off your truck/car, have a tack weld put under the lower ball nut on the thread. Most of us don't have a welder. Any small garage can tack it for you $5.00. Tell him to weld the bottom of the nut right to the threads and it will never loosen up or be able to be removed. Now the ball nut can't be just unscrewed and your trailer swung over and dropped into the thieves trailer hitch with his ball removed. The sturdiest lock through the trailer coupling won't prevent theft by removing the ball nut. The scum-ball thief will hitch up your rig to his truck and tow it off to his garage where he can work at his leasure on cutting the coupling lock or unbolting the whole coupling and putting on a new one. I also put one of those "CLUB" type steering wheel lock bars with a hook on each end (designed specifically for locking bikes and ATVs) from the ATVs rear rack to the folded up rear ramp, so the ramp can't be lowered. Just takes a second and makes a obvious statement to onlookers that you are VERY serious about your equipment and you are not to be trifled with.
