If John Cannon is on Can-Am's new DVD and it seems to me like he's being sponsered, how come he's saying on his site that the 800's visco lok doesn't work with the 29.5 laws he has on it? I know quite a few guys running 28" zillas, 29.5 laws and 30" lites now with no reports that the visco lok doesn't work properly. I have never experienced a situation where the front diff won't lock up. What's up with this comment? What do U guys think? NBM.

I spoke to John. C. on the phone about this issue some months back, after the 06 Mud Nationals.

Its not that the visco lok won't work with the 29.5 laws, its just there is a delayed engagement.

Can-Am was at the 06 Highlifter Mud Nationals, and I was supposed to ride there OL 800 in the mud bog, and sled pull. Of course we were in a terrible move from one house to another at the time, and I was at a closing for the entire weekend when the Mud Nats were going on, that is another story.

At any rate at the Mud Nationals John C. was there, and he spent alot of time with the Can-Am reps, and he has been closely working with them, and discussing the weaknesses of the visco lok, primairly the delayed engagement on hard pack surfaces, and in super thick concrete like mud. Apparently, Can-am is working on making the visco lok engage more quickly.

Side note, when people say the visco lok isn't working, they mean there is a slight delay. I don't consider that not working, that is just the way the system is. Back2sportsman, and I ride alot, and I have watched him in countless mudholes, and he runs 28" Zillas. There is a zero to 1 sec delay in soft, watery, loose mud, the engagement is nearly instant, however, in super, super thick mud there is a slightly longer engagement, up too 5 secs, and many hardcore mudders, don't like that, or technical riders like myself who don't like it.

But that is what is going on.

it might appear to be a delay, but the viscoloc doesnt know what tires you're running. If it takes 2 revolutions at 500 rpm to lock up(just as an example),it will take 2 revolutions at 500 rpm with 29s or 19s or whatever.A revolution is a revolution is a revolution. It just takes more juice to spin a 29" tire 2 revolutions at 500rpm.And if you're doing it slow enough to count the revolutions, you're not hitting the needed rpms

You must mean 5000 rpm.

i think its got more to do with hub speed, if you think about it big tires 29.5s slow down the middle hub and it delays, but when you have the smaller tires on it speeds up the hub and almost instantly it locks, thats my thought on the delay what do you think?
