I would like to rant a little here. There is some a$$hole driving around near Britt throwing anti-freeze laced hot dogs into the yards of dog owners. Several pets have died already. If it was my dog and I found out who it was, he/she would never walk again! What kind of a low life would do this $hit?

They were obviously not just targeting one animal as several reports have been made so far.:pod: I hope they nail them! That just makes my blood boil!

Reward fund set up at local bank in poisoning of dogs case
Mesabi Daily News
Sunday, September 25th, 2005 11:16:26 PM

Kevin Bird of Virginia wrote a letter to the editor that was published on Sunday in the Mesabi Daily News pointing out just how rotten were the actions of a person or persons who laced wieners with antifreeze to poison dogs in Britt.

The killing of some of man’s best friend is truly disgusting.

And Bird pointed out that the effects of such cruel acts are many and go beyond the ghastly death of poisoning the dogs must go through. They impact the owners of the dogs, family members and, in the case of Bird, a family that raised some pups and then found a loving and caring home for them.

In a separate e-mail last week after our editorial that pointed out a reward fund would soon be announced, he wrote that he would pledge $100 to the fund.

Story Continues Below

We also received a telephone call from a Virginia business person following that editorial saying he, too, would put $100 in such a fund.

That reward fund is now open at Northern State Bank in Virginia. It was started with a $100 donation by former Mesabi Daily News General Manager L.R. Asbach. We applaud his efforts, along with donations pledged by two others last week. The reward will go to anyone providing information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who have poisoned the dogs.

We will keep you, our readers, updated on how the reward fund develops and also on the law enforcement investigation.

Poisoning of dogs truly despicable act by a sick person
Mesabi Daily News
Saturday, September 24th, 2005 11:00:47 PM

I would like to address the despicable act that was reported by the Mesabi Daily News on September 18, 2005. Whoever the “sicko” is who found it necessary to poison the dogs on Highway 68 in Britt must have a very good reason.

How else can you explain the heartless animal cruelty displayed? These dogs were family pets, considered “children” by some, and fully trained hunting buddies. They were a “welcome home” committee and a best friend to their owners.

How would I know this? One of the puppies that you murdered was my dog for 8 weeks. My family and I cared for Sandy and her five other siblings from their birth (Sept. 11, 2004 — the puppy wasn’t even a year old yet) until we found them qualified, caring, and loving homes. We watched them play and run around with their mother. We fed them from bottles at all hours of the night and made sure they were warm and properly cared for. We hand picked the new owners of these puppies knowing they would go to happy and loving homes.

We did not expect anyone to take it into their own hands to destroy what we had worked so hard to secure for each one of our puppies. What you do not realize, is the fact that by needlessly torturing these pets you affected more than just the dogs and their owners. You affected their families, their children, their friends, their veterinarian and their prior owners.

Their owner was noticeably shook up when he called to tell me that he had to put his dog to sleep. Dr. Kalinowski cared for these dogs from the third day they were alive. My mother cried when she found out how you killed these kind, caring animals.

These are people’s pets and they were killed in cold blood. How disrespectful are you of other people’s property? How heartless of an individual are you? These are living beings.

I’m wondering if this is similar treatment that you give to things that matter to you. Do you know how it feels to have something you have loved and cared for to suddenly be taken away by a cruel, heartless, despicable, act? I do not know how you can live with yourself.

The Sheriff’s Department will find you, and I hope prosecute you to the fullest.

Kevin Bird

Virginia

I would like to have ten minutes in a locked room with the people responsible for that.

I have absolutely zero tolerance for anyone that does things like this.  Anyone who abuses a child or an animal...well, it just gets to me in a way that most things don't.  I can't comprehend any reason that someone would have for doing something like that.

just "reward fund"??

would think one would need a name or numbered accound to get it to the correct account.

but here is a challenge to all on this board....and other boards you go to.

the challenge is to put in $20. - $50. USD to this account during the fist half of october 2005.

that is what i was thinking,   i live in a "town" that only has about 300,000 - 400,000 people, and growing very fast,  i a couple of years we should see a pop of 1 million.

:cry:cryaverage price for a new 1200 square foot house is over $350,000 USD.

it takes almost a half hour to get to the outher side of town (15 miles) at times even longer.............got fuel
