Been watching it build up all day on TV. Why couldn't they drop several clean type NUKES in an air burst right in the edge of "eye". If you would space them apart just right with just the right timing I would think it might be enough to throw the vortex effect off balance and the hurricane would tear itself apart. Better than just doing nothing.
Granted the energy of a hurricane is almost beyond measuring, but that doesn't mean that you can't "spit in it's eye" at exactly the right time and place to cause it to trip (Elephant analogy) and you use it's own energy to break itself apart.
Radiation would be the least problem since it would be widely dispersed and the bombs or missiles used could be as clean as possible. Radiation problem is nothing compared to what this hurricane is capable of doing. They just don't realize...
When you are facing the kind of disaster I think they are, you take drastic measures. My bet is that 50,000 people could be killed and damages in the billions. New Orleans may never recover.
