Read an article once by a surgeon that said that beheading is one of the most humane ways to execute someone if it's done right. Does not include using a dull knife and sawing from the side. The French guillatine (spelling?) is a good example. Or a heavy sharp sword whielded by a professional. The surgeon said all the victim will fell is a tickle on his neck. When the spinal column is instantly severed all nerve endings that transmit pain to the brain are disconnected. The brain will continue to function as long as 8 seconds and the eyes will be able to see before the brain dies for lack of blood/oxygen. ...and a Merry Christmas to all.
