LAKE CRYSTAL, Minn. (AP) - A 42-year-old Lake Crystal man led sheriff's deputies on a goose chase. His getaway vehicle: a 5-horsepower mini-motorcycle.
A call came in reporting that Douglas Lee Menne had wiped out at a downtown intersection. Sheriff's Deputy Jeff Wersal responded, suspecting it was a case of drunk driving.
By the time the deputy arrived at the intersection, Menne had recovered and driven off. After locating him, Wersal tried to get Menne to pull over. The bike had no tail light or license plate.
Wersal pursued Menne to a parking lot where he paused briefly, re-started the bike and zipped out the other side of the lot. The chase continued as Menne put-putted down a nearby street at about 25 mph.
Wersal pulled alongside Menne and yelled at him to stop. The chase slowed to about 10 mph when Wersal pulled in front of the bike.
Wersal then fired his Taser out his squad car window. One dart hit Menne, but fell out. The effort hindered Menne enough for Wersal to get out of his car and push Menne off the bike. It took the help of another deputy to make the arrest, according to the report.
Menne was jailed and released later after posting $12,000 bail. Charges are pending.

Cops sure have a suck job. everyone hates em till they are wronged in any way and then who's the first one you call eh yup a cop.  they can be sued for doing their job and can even be sued for NOT doing it. if that guy got hurt or hurt someone else and a cop seen em and laughed em off. and later on they get hurt they will try suing the dept. think it doesn't happen??? just poll the officers that are members of this forum.  Taser use is by far better than  some of the other alternatives. it hits you and makes muscles contract. OH WOW  thats horrible. but then there is CN or CS   which got changed now to pepper spray.  but when you used pepper spray on da bad guy you can count on getting it all over yerself too. no fun. theres always the PR-24 (sidehandle baton) theres a goodie ,,, BUT OWWWW you can count on that one leaving a mark LOL not counting there is always some joker around with a digital cam  the second you grab for it. gee that leaves very few options, shoot em or do the ole PIT trick LOL. so outta all the options there sounds like the good ole Taser was a pretty good choice eh ok time to shut up now :-x   :raz:

Well,I guess you told me,eh ?:gp: And for the record,I never said anything about disliking the police.I work in public school transportation in a municipal complex along with police.State police barracks are  right across the road.Never had a run in wth the law either.Im my job,we are held to higher accountability than the teachers that spend the better part of the day with the kids.N.Y.S. arcticle 19-A ,random drug and alcohol testing ,fingerprinting , ect.All that being said I have seen some things in my time that was just plain wrong.I realize that 95 % of law enforcement is doing their job the right way,but I have seen a few incidences of abuse.

I meant no disrespect to any decent law enforcement officers anywhere, but their profession is not above disgruntled employees having a bad day and taking it out on some dummy that screws up.I thougnt a taser was a little excessive, but obviously I have thought wrong.

I too think the taser was overkill and that they could have used something less violent on the guy. It's not like he did a serious crime here. He wiped out fer crissakes. Hungry to write a ticket IMO

the taser IS prolly the least violent device a LEO carries. it makes you feel like ya grabbed a really weak sparkplug for a second and then its over unless you wanna fight back or not comply then you get zapped again.  and if he was such a good guy why did it take two LEO's to arrest em?? yeah it was funny he was wiping out and running  away on a mini bike real funny till the next time he wipes out on a little old layer walking her dog or the 8 year old riding his bike down the street eh lol  the guy was breaking the law ... if he (the cop) stops em and writes em a ticket he's a "smokin pencil" and if he watches em and lets em go, he's in too much of a hurry to get to the donut shop to do his job. either way how does he win?? ... what would YOU have done?

Well this all could of ended sooner if the cop would of thrown a beer out the side window, the drunk would of hit the binders and chased the beer. But then I suppose somebody might try and sue the cop for bait in the drunk:raz:

lmao that wasnt a rant on what you said just an infomerical as to what a suck job it is sometimes being a cop and what some of his other choices were tossed in there lolol I thought it was a rather funny but creative way to get that dummy to stop lolol and I also know the taser has been getting a lot of bad press lately when in reality it isnt that "bad" of a tool.

Blakeslee, an employee with nearby B&B Auto Repair, described the man's reaction to getting shot.

"He said, 'Ow, that hurt, I'm coming down, I'm coming down,'" Blakeslee said

HEY it worked didnt it LMAO

YAY Barney Fife. lol. Now, whos got a taser for sale? :tg: Oh I almost forgot, how does a taser compare with a cattle prod as far as voltage? We used to zot each other with  cattle prods in high school , that was some funny stuff, but they realy hurt.

What about people with heart conditions? Wouldnt the taser deliver a lethal charge?
I myself have a heart condition and I dont think a zap from anything would be good.

I would think if you have a heart condition you prolly wont be out combatting the police eh LOLOL  that one I do not know I guess it is possible.  they say it shouldnt. but how can you be sure eh. I would think the mental excitement from it all could trigger a heart attack. I used to play with my taser and shock myself as a demo to anyone that asked about them and the shock seemed scary at first cause it was "unknown" but after a couple hits it was like hmm no biggie. it still made the muscles contract and did its job. I  just wasnt afraid of it any more.

Exactly. Read this:

The Arizona Republic, using computer searches, autopsy reports, police reports, media reports and Taser's own records, has identified 167 cases in the United States and Canada of death following a police Taser strike since September 1999
