I am looking very hard at the grizzly 700 or 660 and the Can am 500XT.

My brother has a 06 660 Grizzly and he loves it. Got a plow and heavy front bumper w/lights.

They both look like great bikes with minor flaws and good benefits. Can you guys help me out with details so I can make the right decision?

Thanks in advance.

If you have dealers in the areas, my advice is to RIDE THEM BOTH!

Each person/rider/ride style will like different things. For me there were two things that Can Am had that the Griz did not... comfort and speed/torque.

For me it was not even close, but you may prefer tyhe Griz... RIDE THEM!

I would ride them both if possible. I have a 2004 Grizzly that I use for work, hunting, etc and I have a 2006 800 Outty max that I use for trail riding. They both have strong points and somethings that I wish was different. It depends on what bike "fits" you best. Good luck with your decision. I dont think you will be disappointed in either one.

I have both ...  a 2001 Grizz and an 800 outty. Prolly the best way to pass on to you what I think of them is Grizz = Cessna .... Outty = F-22 Raptor LMAO  :)

I have both the Grizz 700 and the Outy 650 Max. I love them both also but with that said which one to get IMO would be based on what type of riding and where you do it. The outy is a little more comfortable but much harder to steer. The outy is more fun in the open 2 tracks where you can use its power and is my perfered choice for long distance riding. The grizz is a better quad for technical riding or tight trails because of the ease of steering, better turning radias, better 4x4 and ground clearance yet still very comfortable. If your going to share the quad with a women  I would defeinetly get the Grizzly 700 with the power steering. Its makes it real easy for them to ride without getting tired. The Grizz is a little easier to work on but both are fairly easy and very reliable. Both need skid plates off the show room floor and both need tires. If it was between the grizz 700 and the Outy 500 I would get the the grizz hands down. I hope this helps.

hoopie , He's also thinkin the Outy 650, What are your thoughts with this thrown in versus the Grizz?

Again, it depends on how he rides. If it was the 500,650, or 800, it would make no releavance in what I would choose because its more about the style of riding he does. Im honest opionion, unless you are a racer (drag or gncc) I think most would enjoy the features of the Grizz over the Outy. Ofcourse, unless your a power junky then the 800 fits but the fact your considering a 500 tells me the grizz has plenty of power to make you happy. It would be nice if you got to test ride each becuase you would see right away which one you would like the most.

my :2cent:.Assuming youre talking about buying NEW. You've got a ruby now. The 660 griz is a little bit better but probably not enough so to justify the money it will cost you to switch up.The 700 griz is slightly better again, but again the same cost/benefit thing. The outty 500...probably the same thing really,as it reportedly doesn't have the pep that it's big brothers have. The outty 650 would be a BIG step up performance-wise compared to your ruby and would make spending the extra money more justifyable imo. Also it will make your brother feel like he owns a powerwheels jeep every time you go out together. As far as the "driving style" thing goes, if it's the other type of driving style you're interested in,save youre money and keep your ruby, or maybe just get a used atv with IRS so you dont break you're back.

WOW!!! I did not really expect such great feedback. You guys are awesome.

The riding I do is definately more technical. Lots of trails, some tight areas, small hills and a little mud. I have been to Turkey Bay once and that was great (At least the first day and a half before the Ruby landed on top of me).

I'd have to say I'm leaning toward the Grizz 700 right now because I have had the chance to ride my bros 660 and it is a really nice bike. Also, I can get a 700 with EPS for the same $$ as a 500 XT Can Am. Not having a chance to really ride the Can Am I do not know how it really fits me. It is obvious that nothing can beat the power, but are there any advantages other than leaving everyone else behind?

P.S. Any quad with IRS and switchable 4X4 is a big step up from an 01 Rubicon. All time 4 by and the suspension of a tractor. It is very dependable but hard to steer and a bit of a rough ride.

You really should  ride an Outy before you buy, find a dealer or an amiable rider and spend 10 minutes on it. It might just change your mind.

Whatever you get, come back and tell us all about it.

The Grizz 700 is going to be faster than the Outy 500 but the Outy 650 will smoke it in a drag race. The grizz 700 is a huge improvement over the Grizz 660 also, completely different quads.

Whats this stuff I'm hearing about boiling gas?

My bros 06 660 had to get a new front wheel bearing already. Normal?

His 660 gets hot a lot also.

Boiling gas?

It does it all the time, I forget the actual temp, but it's something like 115 degrees.

People that live in hot areas like Vegas and Phoenix actually get screwed at the pump :) , in the summertime by the pumps misreading the "boiling gas" coming through the system. (Read a newspaper article on that, just the other day).

They make automotive gas tanks with extra room for the gas to expand/boil, diesel does not expand nearly as much.

The grizz 700's dont boil gas anymore. It does sound like it though if you listen to it but its actually just the vent doesnt allow the pressure to escape fast enough. Its litteraly a 5 minute fix though and it doesnt do this. You cant compare the 660 and 700. They are completely different quads. About the only thing that is the same on it is the 4x4 system and the name.

I only have about 500 miles on the Grizzly 700 and a little over a 1000 miles on my 650 outlander max. The outy tops out at 73mph gps and it has way more power than the grizz everywhere in the powerband.  The Grizz is about 65mph The outie and grizz are both great quads. The outy is more comfortable, more power, better gas milage, and my first choice for long distance riding. Its like riding a caddilac. The grizz is much better at technical riding, tight woods, and mud pits, water riding. IMO the outy only has two bad things with one being fixable: the shocks suck but fixable with aftermarkets and makes a huge difference in fast riding and ground clearance, the second is the 4x4 visco lock doesnt lock fast enough but good enough in everything but slow rock crawling. the grizz needs more power, better racks, better gas mileage. hope this helps

I GOT IT!!!!!!!

I went with the '08 Grizzly 700 with EPS. IT's awesome. This is my first brand new 4 wheeler. My wife said "It's your birthday, let's go get that new 4 wheeler". (I have the best wife in the the world.) I never thought she could outdo the plasma she got me last year.

I went with the Grizz cause most of my riding is technical, not power based. Not that this thing lacks power compared to that Rubicon. It is such a big upgrade for me.

the ride, comfort, steering, power, and not mention it looks good. I mean its no yellow outty, but the blue still looks good.

I want to thank you guys for all your help. Especially Hoopie. Can't wait to get this bad boy on the trails this weekend.

Notice the new signature!!  I told the dealer I wanted blue. He drove 2 hours, brought it back in the crate and assembled it yesterday. The time and odometer both read 00000. :aniwh::clp::dan::dan::dan::dan::whs::wh:

It's all stock(for now) but I'll get pics and a first ride report.

I'm sure there are some mods to get a little more out of the Grizz, in the power department if needed.

Congrats on the plasma too! :)

We didn't make it out to the trails. Mom's tranny went out and it needed replaced. All the rain we have had in southern Illiois is driving me crazy. It has rained every dat since I got the bike. Still got 15 miles on it riding around the yard. Good break in time.

The wife took it for a spin and thought I'd never get her off of it. She loves that EPS.

I'm going to try again this weekend to get the grizz on the trails and play some.

Pilot Guy,

Where do you ride in Southern Illinois. I grew up there and I'm visiting over the holidays. Might bring my otty 800 if there is a place to ride. Thanks Hoonerdawg.
