And once again I seek help from the quad god’s…

Activity:           General miss-behavior in the Sultan River area of WA. State.   We found a pond, no more than 1 foot deep, at the bottom of a 50 foot embankment.  The moral imperative mandated that we get to the top of the hill, quad down and run, full tilt boogie, through the water.

I made maybe half a dozen passes.

Result:          On the way back to base camp I was flat out a few times. All was right with my quad world.  Then the 600 Grizz started to backfire and bog down.   By the time we reached base camp I could make maybe 15 MPH.  Whenever I tried to add more fuel it would bog and backfire sounding like a 308.

My thinking was I got something real wet…    However…

One month later I moved the unit and had it on the street for about 300 feet.  When I tried to play 240 Gordy it would bog and backfire as in Monroe.

                    Ideas?  Suggestions?  Additions?  Subtractions?

Thanks in advance...:urok:

Wow I don't know, water should have evaporated from connections etc. Did you check for water in your airbox?

This happen to me and many friends. Check a couple of things.

1) Make sure the breather hose to the gas cap is not plugged with any debris. One time I would ride for about 3min and then started to bog down, sputter and then stalled. Found my breather hose was plugged with mud, and air was not being able to get to my gas tank.

2) Usually the sputtering and stalling occurs immediately after running through a water hole, especially when there is alot of steam coming off the motor, known as vapor lock. Basically, you wait until steam clears, and works it way of the air box and carb, and she will fire right up.

3) From your discription and riding several miles after hitting that water hole, next time just loosen the gas cap up a little bit, and it should run fine. You may have a defective gas cap or something is not seated correctly in it.

4) Lastly, when you fly through water like that sometimes water can make it into the carb. There is a drain screw on the bottom of the carb, just turn it and let any water run out. You can flush it two or three times. Just turn your fuel :pod: to off, drain it, turn it back on, and let it drain some more.

Just check your gas cap. My buddy was doing water wheelies for about 20min, came out of the lake, started to go back to camp and bam his machine was dead. It only started when the Grizz was tilted straight up or at an angle. Come to find out the Gas cap just need to be loosen to allow either build up of air or vapor out, and it ran fine after that.

OK but would the gas cap keep it vapor locked for a month of just sitting?

One time my Outlander would not idle on a hot day. It would die when you let off the gas......thats what my dealer said the problem was, gas cap not venting properly...whether or not that was just a cop out I'm not sure but it hasn't done it since then

Yeah, not sure about that Outlandish. That doesn't make sense.
