I replaced my front bearings on my 02 Grizz at 1705 miles and 428.6 hours, and I just replaced my rear bearings at 2191 miles and 541 hours. How long did your bearings last on your Yamaha machine?

I sold my Big Bear w/ about 2000 miles and the bearings were still good. It didn't have too many swamp miles on it though :lolol:

Yeah, I ll tell you the mud and swamps just eat them up. Probably in another year I am buying a quad strictly for trail riding and it will not see a mudhole. Its hard to have both and expect them to perform 100%.

i picked up a very used kodiak 1993 year, it was not matained at all needed to fix a lot on it spedo says about 15,700, but is broken so do not know the real miles,

but anyhow the front wheel bearings are still in very good shape, so are the rear axle bearings, needed to replace the swing arm bearings as they were shot.

The Kodiaks are great machines and should last forever with proper maintenance.

vipeboy2000 first, welcome to our board!

Jack your Griz up in the air and grab the tires by the treads and try to wiggle them side to side and up and down. If there is slack in there you will feel it.

Welcome Vipeboy, also. This is a great place and very laid back place.

I just want to add to what Outlandish said. If your bearings are really shot you can literally stand on your machine and rock it left to right, back and forth, and feel your wheels give or slack.

If you don't do this or never change your tires it is difficult to determine if the bearings are bad. As Outlandish suggested by rocking the wheel back and forth you will know. I suggest jacking your machine up to get your wheels off the ground, take your left hand place it directly on top of the tire, take your right hand and place it directly on the bottom of the tire and pull it too and away from yourself. A little play is no big deal, when I say a little I mean a little. If you can really rock it, with alot of play your bearings are shot. To give you an idea a brand new machine with perfectly packed bearings the wheel will not rock at all. All of my new machines never rocked or very, very little.

You really need to check them, my buddy never checked his and the bearings litearlly melted or bond to the spacer. They had to weld them out. My bearings were very bad, when I checked them I had alot of play, I thought my wheel was broken or the tie rods were shot. I soon discovered it was the bearings.

We do a ton of mud riding so this is why my bearings failed faster than others. Hope that helps.
